Apr 14, 2017 I don't think it was bad either - in fact, I probably like it more today than I did two years ago. But I do think it had a tendency to disappear up its own a--- This one felt a lot more confident and assured for me - not nearly as eager to please. Admittedly these are early impressions (2 listens). But I think replay value is going to be strong
Apr 14, 2017 I've called off work and listened to each song 14 times now. Def classic guys 10/10 What's weird is If you take the third word in each song and make a sentence together. It says: "Wickedness I so give praying Kenny life for Water or sharks why the star" Which doesn't mean much. BuT after I stared at that sentence on my ninth listen I took all the words and jumbled all the letters around and it gave me this: "On Sunday king Kendrick is coming back to release a new album featuring eminem" The breadcrumbs are there for us to figure this out you guys. Kenny the goat!
Apr 14, 2017 For real only 2 songs i dont f--- with are Love and God for some reason ... i hope thats not a sign or something wasnt feeling Kendrick doing a song like Love its cool but i dont really like Kendrick on it ... God i dont get this song at all the production and his voice really dont make sense for me
Apr 14, 2017 That's a good way to put it -- it feels a lot less like he set out to make An Inportant Album About Important Things. Obvs I gassed up TPAB waaaay too hard but I did really think it sounded that amazing first listen. I'm on my fourth listen of d--- and it's only getting better, whereas TPAB's flaws were already seeping through for me at that point, though I didn't wanna admit it cuz like I said I gassed the album super hard and TDE had viz on what I was writing so I kinda felt obligated to like it. Important lesson in criticism for me though. Like you said, I don't think TPAB is bad, it's just extremely ambitious and falls short of those ambitions in a lot of places.
