Apr 19, 2017 I think that what's missing is Kendrick himself. I mean, beside Coachella he's been hidden since the release of the album, while during TPAB era we had those tv performances, interviews on radio and even a parade the day of the release. Hopefully the interview on Friday with Zane Lowe will give us some interesting info about this whole era.
Apr 19, 2017 Yeah that's what I'm hoping, at least if not an announcement I just hope he explains some things
Apr 19, 2017 i don't think its missing anything you listen to this to this album from front to back and the back takes you right to the front. i remember someone saying that this is kendrick leaving all his feelings in songs as he dies hence why he gets shot and the main idea of this album is also what happens on earth stays on earth. as far as the track listing with the periods have no idea what that means
Apr 19, 2017 He was pushing hard for the Grammy then tho, not everything he does has some mystical meaning bruv
Apr 19, 2017 Yeah I would agree but idk OD is his 5th tape. I originally took it as meaning cloud 9 and 10 is on the way but album idea seems a bit more fitting
Apr 19, 2017 IMO the album truly is mediocre and does actually have some 0/10 tracks like love and loyalty. Those made me throw up in my mouth a little. However he also has some 11/10 tracks like DNA feel and duckworth. Say what you want but I guess they kind of even out around a 6/10 album.
Apr 19, 2017 Hi OP @YiT its called d---. because of all of the s--- going on in his life rn. What would be your reaction if you found out your employer would have killed your father and with a simple turn of events you could have missed out on the opportunity to change lives and music forever. My reaction would be "d---"
Apr 19, 2017 When you sit back and think about all this s--- he is talking about, for example you go into the album wondering why he capitalizes every song title and why the song titles are dichotomous but then it hits. These song titles are all opposites of each other. And FEAR. is what ties them all together. that 4th verse of FEAR. is very revealing of the commentary laced throughout this album.
Apr 19, 2017 People wonder what YAH. and ELEMENT. have to do with each other. YAH. deals with the pressures of his new found fame. He finds it hard to hold onto himself in the midst of "radars buzzing" as he puts it. Thats what he's talking about when he says he's talking fear of losing creativity. He titled YAH. after typical styles in non-creative music to symbolize that. Then ELEMENT. is about his love for the rap game. So he reassures that he will never lose himself out of love for the game. But then you combine that with the fact that on FEAR. he says something along the lines of he cant tell if he's living his life through fear or through rap. This s--- is very layered and very deep. I think ultimately this album is a culmination of everything going through Kendrick's mind as he processes s--- like Trump, learning that his father was almost murdered by his employer, and just coming to grips with his humanity while being this figure of guidance to youth while not even knowing where to go from here himself. ---. really covers that internal conflict because as he sits and analyzes what he would do if someone took someone from him, he is headed to a seminar to teach kids to not refer to violence as an answer to their problems. All this s--- is just weighing on his mind and FEAR. is what gives all of these factors life. Tremendous album, tremendous concept and tremendous music. I fear the meaning behind this was lost on even the likes of Fantano as he gave a rather diluted and heinous review while not really taking the time to digest and analyze all of what is going on here. Great album 10/10. Only song Id say it could do without, or song that could be improved is LOVE. Not a bad song, just feel like Ive heard it before. Recycled style.
Apr 20, 2017 I respect your opinion, I'm a fan of kendrick lamar but I expected d---. to make me say d--- and it didn't. DNA, PRIDE, LUST, FEAR, GOD & DUCKWORTH are great tracks but apart from that I can't really say it's great. He gets way too much praise while all his albums have like 6 great songs and the rest is meh. his voice got so annoying troughout this album too
