Jul 17, 2015 What do I think of them or did I grow up on them? Never read any comics. The Animated X-Men series was dope. I did rent the awful live action Captain America a few times. Movie wise, the first Thor and Captain America were just boring and forgettable.
Jul 17, 2015 was trying to respond to your quote to my previous post without having to cite it all haha
Jul 18, 2015 I don't see how anyone could like Guardians of The Galaxy I'm a huge fan of these movies and I found myself on my phone most of the time which is something I never do
Jul 18, 2015 I thought it was a lot fun when I first saw it and when watching some of it on TV recently, it mostly held up. The team dynamic works exceedingly well (I saw comparisons to Rio Bravo at its release) and Whedon's sharp writing and direction elevate it above most of the solo films. What easily could have been a mess is surprisingly fluid and well-paced (With its additional characters, fan service, and shoehorned franchise building, Age of Ultron becomes that mess). Like most Marvel movies, the finale is mostly lacking in tension, but as far as CGI crashing into CGI goes, it is at least coherent visually (which can't necessarily be said about Transformers). It may not be a classic or anything, but as I think ReverseShot noted, Avengers conveys the palpable joy of a kid smashing his action figures together.
Jul 18, 2015 This. The only superhero movies I've ever given a s--- about were Nolan's Batman. I think that's because they weren't even really "superhero" films. The Avengers, the new Batman vs Superman (lol) and Suicide Squad all look so f---ing corny and cringey.
Jul 18, 2015 What the f---? Great movie. Had it's flaws, but did not "s---" by any stretch of the imagination.
Jul 18, 2015 Watchmen was pretty good. Suicide Squad is definitely going after the Nolan aesthetic. DC without Nolan seems kind of hopeless though. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a straight up action/espionage movie for the most part. 90s throwback. I'd rec it to anybody who wants something a bit more grown up from Marvel. I mean despite the lack of blood, a guy gets thrown into an aircraft turbine. Tons of people end up dying. It might have the only convincing love interest in any of the superhero movies. Tons of great stunt work. Highly recommended.
Jul 18, 2015 eh. i'm not a comic book person, but watchmen is a great intellectual property. i thought the movie did the book a disservice--not by changing the ending per se, just by being too schticky.
Jul 18, 2015 Yea like @CharlieWork said, if you're ever gonna check out any superhero movie you gotta see Captain America: Winter Soldier. Best superhero movie ever imo.
Jul 18, 2015 Avengers 1 was great. I have no complaints about it at it. Avengers 2 was good too but disappointing after all the hype. Guardians Of The Galaxy is very overrated, Iron Man is too. None of them are as good as Winter Soldier though.
Jul 18, 2015 i like gotg most the rest of the movie are just there..i havent replayed any other superhero movie other than gotg
Jul 18, 2015 Captain America TWS is the best superhero movie in my honest opinion. Not far behind that is TDK, The Avengers, and Batman Begins is somewhere in there as well. Don't sleep on Spiderman 2.
Jul 18, 2015 I didn't read the book until after, but I still like the movie. A lot of that is due to things from the book, but I also think it's Snyder's best work. He's the most comfortable when working from strong source material. Plus the casting was excellent, especially Rorschach.
Jul 18, 2015 fair. i don't think it was a total flop--if anything, it's just the proverbial 'unfilmable' source. it's hard to get the tone right when you're dealing with series existential debates, but you're shooting a live-action movie with gaudy superhero costumes. it's just not the right medium.
