I wouldn't say its in the "zombie genre" Survival Horror yes, but zombie genre naw...I'm not gonna get into the debate though. Yea, It is hard af..but once you play it multiple times..you'll definitely breeze through it, most of the time..lol

Well I could get into why I don't think the game is that great, I have an argument, I'm not just throwing out controversial statements for the sake of it. But the fact is that if you like the game, you're going to keep liking it regardless of what I say so :kanye3:

zombie is a sub-horror genre in and of itself, but I get that this game, thematically, is mostly survival horror. anyways with that being said...I find it hard to believe this game can be a breeze.. maybe on normal or easy, but it's really challenging on the harder difficulties. it gives you that sense of scarcity. you'll be opening drawers and cabinets hoping to find s--- but it will be empty; on the lower difficulties, there would be things there.

if you have an argument, by all means. speak it. what do you have to lose by doing so?

and I already said I'm not having that much fun with the game just because of what it is. But, I like story driven games, and the campaign is very captivating. I'm not going to say it's overrated just because it's not my taste, but if you think you have a sound argument for it, let's hear it.

Yea, it would be that way if this is your first time playing it..and you started it on Hard/Grounded. When I first played it, I started it on Normal... actually it was still kinda difficult for me on that option. I guess I've played it so many times, I know what to expect.

survivor. there's absolutely no way i'd be able to beat this game on grounded on my first playthrough, survivor is f---ing impossible as it is. the reason I did it though is because I want to get the gold trophy. the story is great but i probably won't play through the campaign again. There's that multiplayer though.

d---, you played the campaign that many times? well I don't blame ya, you must like it a lot.

with the Ps3 version selling 7 million and Ps4 version over 1 million plus all Ps4s being bundled with it now, it's probably reached over 10 million copies sold. Which is pretty good for a new IP

Yea, it's probably my favorite game ever.. plus, the subject matter, about "loss", and "survival" helped me cope with my brother's death this September. May sound silly that a game can help you at a time like that, but it did for me.

I kinda know what you mean, and I agree. I feel like it'd only feel silly to say simply because video games as a whole are still perceived as being children's items first. Which is stupid, but it's kinda the way it is unfortunately.

For a game that's widely praised by so many as being like, revolutionary and unprecedented, it feels awfully... safe.
You have a post-apocalyptic setting, zombies (yes they are zombies, not using the word "zombie" doesn't make them not zombies), cover-based shooting and survival elements; it could basically be any triple-A game from the last five years. I also don't really get the praise for the story; Ellie was a great character but Joel was an unlikeable d-ck* and everyone else was either killed off or put on a bus before they got any kind of substantial development. It feels like Naughty Dog just wanted to make Uncharted with zombies, but kinda left out everything that made Uncharted so entertaining; the puzzles have been replaced by... putting ladders against walls, the charismatic lead was replaced by, well, Joel, and the over-the-top 80s action movie vibe was replaced by boring, brown and grey grittiness.
To steal a quote from someone else, The Last Of Us feels like the videogame equivalent of Oscar-bait; perfectly solid, but doesn't really hold up under any amount of scrutiny

*inb4 "He was supposed to be unlikeable", if this is true, what's my motivation to keep him alive? I feel no drive to ensure the survival of someone I dislike.

Okay, I finally beat the campaign. Albeit, with a lot of help through shareplay. But I got through it. the story kept us very captivated.

Now honestly, again, my opinion of the genre has not changed (survivor-horror, and zombie stealth) I really have absolutely no desire to ever play through this game ever again, but I'm happy to have experienced one of the greatest games of all time. I don't know if it deserves a 10 though. With all the technical problems at hand, I would give just one point off, so 99. This game definitely deserved all the attention and accolades that it got. But hey, no game is perfect, eh? =]

    Now, about that ending...
Are we supposed to like Joel? I didn't really like him, or Ellie, I did care about her as a character but I just didn't actually like her. As for Joel... I'm sure back in 2013, a popular video game question must've been, "Did Joel do the right thing?"

because...I'm not sure I would say yes. I get why he did it, he didn't want to sacrifice Ellie and go through having her be a loss to him, but he did in a way to just be a man in control, like he's not gonna let this happen because he doesn't want it to. Like as a father, HE knows what's best and that's to not do this operation on her.

Along the way of the final section of the game I'm told there's some sort of recording that says they found other immune victims and operated on them to no avail, but it's not entirely clear to me. Can anyone explain in further detail?

Beat it on all modes. I recommend survivor or grounded. Game is so much better without the listening feature.

I hope to god it's not a Prequel, being able to control Marlene isn't exciting in the least bit. They want to reboot the original story?.. for what?.. It's perfect, make a direct sequel, or leave it alone.

yeah, it's not. if you actually look through it, their link to the suggestion of a prequel doesn't even come from naughty dog, it comes from a proposition that moviepilot wrote, lol... naughty dog never said anything about making a prequel.

and they also never said anything about a reboot, that's entirely misleading. all they basically said was they may have a sequel with new characters if troy baker & ashley johnson (joel & ellie) don't return to their roles, and that the chances of a sequel are 50/50. the latter was way early on though, i'd say the chances for a sequel now are 100%.
