I mean, it wasn’t just me either, a lot of my co-workers felt the same way. I think the labels “microagressions” “safe spaces” “trigger warnings” etc. are all toxic. A lot of what is taught in these courses could easily be brought under one umbrella of social discourse. While I do think the material in these type of training activities can get ridiculous & should be revised — I do think there’s some value to them. Hate crimes are on the rise in the U.S. & sexual harassment/assault on college campus continues to be an ongoing issue. That’s what these training exercises could be addressing & should be tackling. Not whether or not someone is offended if I ask them if they speak a foreign language (yes, this was actually another example).

Funny enough, I have a coworker, she’s an Indian woman who grew up in Texas. She actually talked to some of the managers about the material/training & whether it’s really beneficial to us. She basically gave them her feedback that the training was extremely “politically correct” & that she wasn’t the only person who felt it was a bit ridiculous.

I’m so disappointed in al franken in light of this accusation. He was one of my favorite senators but he should certainly be investigated. This was a good response but he has a long way to go.
