    Nope. I’m simply pointing out that the U.S. has forever prided itself in being a country that accepts people from all over the world. That’s why we’re the world’s melting pot. Hence why on the Statue of Liberty it says, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,t he wretched refuse of your teeming shore. send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

    You claimed these were examples that contradicted my original statement [that the U.S. has always accepted immigrants] but they don’t. The U.S. has forever prided itself in being the land of the free. We aren’t perfect though. We’ve done things in the past that make us look like hypocrites but they are looked back on as mistakes & dark parts of our history. Native American genocide, slavery, Jewish refugees, Japanese-American concentration camps etc.

    @reservoirGod is right. It is a whataboutism because those examples don’t justify trump’s statements. Just because we turned away Jewish refugees during the Holocaust doesn’t mean it’s okay for the president to refer to African/Latin-American countries as “s----holes” & want to push those immigrants away in 2018.

    You said that “we’ve always been accepting of immigrants from wherever they’ve come from”, which is true. Have we always reflected that reflected that in a proper manner? Like you said, we haven’t. Seems like Kodak Black read your statement as if you were ignoring those instances (which you weren’t). He brought up such instances and i threw in an example, not to somehow stick it to you or go “lol you’re wrong”.

    And I never said that it justified Trumps remarks. And some of those countries are shitholes btw, but we shouldn’t push away immigrants from those countries.

    Historically we've been a country that accepts immigrants based on their merits, not a benevolent shelter for the impoverished peoples of the world. Under a mildly restrictionist, merit-based immigration policy, we would hardly be taking in people from Haiti and Africa. There is nothing morally wrong with Trump's statements. It's a perfectly sane, sensible, sound centrist position to take.

    Yup. History books will not look back well on those that pushed away Syrian refugees. They will be looked at in the same light as those who pushed away Jewish refugees during the Holocaust.
