Jan 8, 2016 Aw. Glad you guys are still interested in this thread/his chartrun. Let me update this next week. I been busy like cray these last weeks. So yeah, I will finally have some more free time. So don't think I forgot about this. Again, sorry for neglecting this thread. And folks. Things will get pretty exciting, as the Grammy's are nearing!! I'm sure he will reach 1m sales in the long haul. Especially after his AOTY win (One can dream...). But on a more serious note. The Grammy's should give him a nice sales push.
Jan 8, 2016 I kind of have mixed feelings regarding your post. I have to agree. I would lie, if I was happy with Kendrick's first week sales. Let alone his sales dropping rather harshly. But now, is 700k~ (Up until now) underwhelming? Let's not forget that this album wasn't made for the commercial audience. Who the h--- listens to jazz music nowadays? Definitely not a younger age demographic. Sure, there are funk elements too on this album. But the jazz influence is definitely outweighing the more "fun funk" side. In my opinion, the funkier songs are more accessible for the public than the jazzy songs. Especially after the Pharell songs. I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself good here. But I hope you guys get what I mean. Jazz is simply not mainstream. Also, it's not like the hip hop community is known for supporting their artists sales. Let's be honest here. So many hip hop acts underwhelm with their sales. Hip hop in general. Except for the known names like Em, Drake and for a lesser extend Jay Z. J. Cole has also won a strong following of actual music buyers. I don't think his team was clever in how they handled his single releases. People were probably not sure what in the freaking h--- his current single is, considering how he made random videos and somehow never performed his actual singles. Also, I'm still f*cking mad at how he and his team handled King Kunta. Although his sales shouldn't stay at 700k sales. The Grammy's will give him a much needed return of momentum. Whether he wins or not is another question. But it will make him visible again. So 1m sales in the long haul is freaking amazing. Just a handful are able to sell that much.
Feb 7, 2016 The Grammy's are around the corner... He will perform there next week. I think the album is on a good way to Platinum. Why so negative? Just let him do his thing. Even better if he wins AOTY at the Grammy's. Then 1m is on lock. Although I believe 1m sales are on lock anyway. Btw. To p---- A Butterfly was certified Platinum by the RIAA in the US.
Feb 7, 2016 RIAA ain't s--- tho, even Top Dawg said it. Well hopefully he manages to go plat eventually, and as for AOTY, it's not exactly clear cut with Taylor Swift in the mix
Feb 7, 2016 Top Dawg was just trolling Rihanna to be honest. Obviously artists/labels still care. Otherwise labels wouldn't apply for new certification. Well yeah it remains to be seen. In my opinion there is no other deserving winner. But thats just me. We'll see.
