    *havent' heard those
Eminem has never in his life written a song as good as "Safe." Or "Sellout." Or "Heaven." Or "Guess Who's Back."
Eminem was, at one point, very good at the act of rapping. He raps well for stretches of MMLP. If that was the criteria for this list it would be 150 albums long. As far as "sounding better on the MIC" goes, I would pay $9.99 a month for the rest of my life just to ensure I'd never hear "The Way I Am" again.
How much is it really different? MMLP is about him being famous.
He was talented, sure. This is about narrowing down 17 years of rap music to two-dozen albums.
No, it absolutely doesn't. Aside from the constant pop culture references, he's just not hitting a point of view that held up during the Bush years. White teenagers and adolescents stopped being angry at everything and started going for the whole disaffected cool thing. Eminem and Kid Rock were the archetypes in 1999, sure--but now it's Drake and ASAP Rocky. It doesn't age well as a rap album, a pop album, or anything else.

It's also insane that you've heard maybe half the albums on this list? And instead of downloading something you're in here acting incredulous that Eminem isn't making the cut. I've written tens of thousands of words on Eminem. I just don't think any of his work merits more attention than these records. But to say it's better than The Fix is just...lol.

I love when people try saying prime Eminem sucks just to try to be edgy and different. PLEASE. :')

His career as a whole is a different story but prime Eminem (2000-02) is The G.O.A.T. no doubt.

I agree MMLP doesn't age that well, a lot of dated references and also just the whole trying to say edgy stuff to cause controversy thing seems so forced/lame now looking back at it.

I honestly think his songs where he doesn't try to be edgy (say goodbye to hollywood, white america, hailies song, etc) are his best songs with the best replay value as well.

WPG isn't even saying prime em sucks, just that he doesn't think Eminem made a top 20 rap album of the past 16 years. It's not that ridiculous of an opinion to have.

not all of them, obviously. So I can't say that MMLP is objectively better than the albums on your list. I can however say that MMLP was a landmark album in hip-hop, it changed the game, sold millions, received critical acclaim, produced some classic songs (Stan, the way I am, TRSS), stirred up tons of controversy, and cemented Eminem's status as a force in the industry. It just seems amiss to not have it on here somewhere. If you're judging it by cultural influence then it definitely should, if you're judging it solely by how good of an album technically it is it probably should be too. If it's just which ones you like the best then I guess it can't really be argued because it's your opinion though.

I mean, no, it didn't. Not that an album has to change rap to be great, but Eminem had virtually zero effect on the direction of the genre. There weren't copycat Eminems who became successful; those were copycat Asher Roths. No one started using beats like Eminem. No one started rapping like him. He was a massive pop star who existed parallel to the rest of hip-hop.

I think it is when both MMLP and TES are widely regarded as two of the best albums of the 2000s, any genre.

Virtually no one outside of forums like these would put The Eminem Show in a best-rap list, never mind an "all genres" list.

Without Eminem I think it's safe to say Asher Roth, Mack Miller, Macklemore etc never would have found much mainstream success. Em pretty much opened the floodgates to white rappers in the mainstream (although there were a few before him). And to say he existed parallel to the rest of hip-hop seems inaccurate since him, dre, 50, and D12 were one of the focal points and driving forces of the industry for a few years.

give me a mention when you put the rest up @WPG

Loved seeing My Krazy Life in there. One of my favorite rap albums of the past few years. Glad to see Purple Haze getting recognition as well. Cam seems to be underrated and forgotten a lot.

No, that's the thing--he didn't. I was talking about this with the dude who signed Roth. All those frat rappers occupy an entirely different space than Eminem. Em might have been the key to a major label throwing a deal to someone like Apathy, but Eminem doesn't help Mac Miller get a deal. If anything, Eminem is a hindrance because he furthered the idea that white rappers have to be hyper-technical to cut it. Again, I'm not saying Eminem is worse for not having a huge impact on hip-hop, I'm just trying to get the history set straight.
You're throwing a handful of names out here and acting like it's all the same thing. Dre is Dre, of course. 50 Cent and G-Unit exerted their will on rap. Nothing about 50's sound has anything to do with Em, though. And let's not honestly act like D-12 made any impact on anything :'(

lol dude I honestly don't know what to tell you. The Eminem Show is a cheesy album with horrible production that waters down the stuff fans, critics, and everyone in between liked about Em earlier on. You only listen to three rappers anyway--how would you know?
