Sep 24, 2024 yeah that and the actual lead single doesn't hype me up all that much. I listen to The Weeknd on the daily and I'm always listening to his old stuff. If I really liked Dancing in the flames, I'd always start the day off when listening to music, with that
Sep 24, 2024 I still like Dancing In The Flames, but it’s just not hitting for me like his music usually does. The music video also wasn’t great and felt generic. If it wasn’t for Wake Me Up, Take Me Back to LA, and Hold Your Heart I would be worried about the album. But the thing is Take Me Back to LA and Hold Your Heart are old leaks from the After Hours deluxe era that have been revamped so we really haven’t heard much new yet.
Sep 24, 2024 Dancing sounds like a regular Weeknd song at this point. It’s cool, but nothing ground breaking for a first single. It’s like Dua’s last album, sometimes you have to switch your sound a bit or it will be more of the same.
Sep 24, 2024 If he drops the song with Gayboi as a single I’m hoping out of the train for now I’ll be crying to Dawn FM beautiful singles until the album drops
Sep 25, 2024 what do we define as a "regular Weeknd song"? because naturally, I don't see him as a synth-pop musician first and foremost, or even pop. even if most of his biggest hits are in those genres. to me, he's always going to be that dark R&B musician.
Sep 25, 2024 I heard it and said, ok, cuz dropped something typical Weeknd, not bad, but not different or infectious. It’s just “there”. I’m gonna need something cooler. If the next single features Playboi then I’m out til it drops lol cause I need to be more hyped not less.
Sep 25, 2024 I get what you're saying but my point is that in my opinion, this is not typical Weeknd. typical Weeknd is King of the fall. synth-pop is him at his most mainstream. even if Blinding lights is his biggest hit, it isn't his most essential sound. that, to me, is The hills. so far, there has always been at least a few tracks on each project of his that still has that essential sound. as long as he has that on Hurry up tomorrow, I'll be happy with it too.
Sep 25, 2024 I disagree. when we have songs like Escape from LA, Faith, & After Hours this decade, that's still the most essential Weeknd. just because he matured doesn't mean the tone changed. his music is still toxic as f---.
