Lol at comparing CB to TLOP. TLOP sounds just as incoherent and random as some of his recent back & forth tweets have been in the past months.

This is a vanity album and you can tell he's finally bought into his own hype here. Thats basically a kardashian's album.

people are clearly being sarcastic about that. its a running gag. views is almost universally seen as stagnation at this point

coloring book is sitting at a 93 on metacritic rn
if you think tpab and coloring book are near flawless you aren't being very critical
    here we f---ing go again

cant talk about tpab cuz youve never listened to a jazz album. cant talk about coloring book cuz youve never listened to a gospel album.

    f--- off
It's definitely pretty great. Im gonna give it more time before making any real claims about it

I thought TPAB was overwhelmingly ambitious at first and refused to rate it for like a few months. Which was smart because in those few months I went from loving it to eventually realizing how people like @WPG might have had a point. Now, I year removed, I'd probably rate it like an 8. It's ambition is rewarding in small doses but its overlong and kind of messy when played front to back. unnecessarily dense, makes questionable choices when it comes to the writing, and the songs just didn't hold up as well as I thought they would.

im not saying coloring book has the same flaws, im just saying people are quick to cape for it because of how ambitious it appears.
    lmao

There should be more commentary on the mixing & mastering. There's some serious issues there. Depending on the source it is really annoying.

 I need to give this another listen, but you're definitely right about people on this forum having issues when they have to review an album.

I understand what you mean. It's not as cohesive as acid rap and there are notable flaws. And maybe it's the version that I have, but there's some mixing problems in it. I still think acid rap is better. Maybe I'll change my mind later.

Open question: Is an ambitious failure inherently better than a modest success?

On topic: Not sure why @Narsh said he expected me to like this better than Acid Rap. It's nowhere near as good as that tape, and I haven't even seen that many Chance stans say that it is? Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

But yeah, this is destined to be wildly overrated. On a personal note, it's just so, so, so far away from what I look for in rap music--both tonally and substantively--and I feel like I'm being sold something when I listen to it. It's not hurting anyone though, so, like, whatever. People are going to love this and Chance is gonna sell out tours until he dies. If there's a record and artist that are going to be this wildly, blindly overrated I'd rather it be someone like him than, I dunno, Lil Dicky.
