i dont need to keep repeating the positives of TPAB when 99.5% wont discuss the negatives.
and every time my overall thoughts about the album were questioned, Ive restated how much I like it, and that my criticisms are to counter the blind praise it receives.Ordinary Joel, Peter Parker, Nori and 1 other person like this. -

People are blindly praisin TPAB for what it attempted to do, not realizing that it CAN be praised for its ambition but still fall short of executing it impeccably. Kendrick executes the album well enough, but there are a lot of area where he could've been more concise with his pseudo-deep bs and less bloated. Not to mention his weaknesses as a rapper are more prevalent on this album than even EP/OD
TPAB is still a solid release, and I'd probably rate it around the same as section 80, but I would 10/10 rather listen to that or GKMCLast edited: Jun 29, 2015Ordinary Joel, Nori, Michael Myers and 1 other person like this. -

From the mastery of the jazz to the excellence of the lyrics to the cohesion to the message, everything about this album is engaging and well executed. Problem is, it's a really niche sound (jazz) and topic (black empowerment, kendricks sob stories) so it's not very accessible and its easy for people to dismiss it since this isn't music you can play anytime. Still quite possibly the most technically proficient rap album I've heard, and its near-perfect critical reception is well deserved. Probably like a 9.4 right up there with MBDTFRastafarian42, Ordinary Joel, Groovy Tony and 1 other person like this. -

People who say this album is a 6/10 or below need to get their music taste up foreal foreal. This album showed just how closeminded and shallow some "hip hop purists" are. It's ok to listen to music that provokes thought. And that replay value s--- is played. High replay value to some of yall is Young Thug and Rae Sremmurd.
