I know and I'm saying part of what gets shifted during this phase of hyperbolic praise is how the different components of the album are perceived

"Incredible concept album," "1 of the best jazz album oat" etc are all things tinged by the albums critical acclaim

What do the Jazz elements actually do for the album though? Why do the Jazz elements make the production better than let's say Rodeo's which is production wise one of my favorite albums. The jazz can be very complex and great but does it matter when it really does not do that much to support Kendrick's rapping, when the production of Rodeo carries Travis pretty much through the whole album on its back
Well Rodeo might not be a good example but how about Young Thug, the way he utilizes production with his voice is pretty new but it works.
What i'm trying to say is that even though the jazz elements might be very good (i don't really have that much knowledge on jazz) what do they actually do to support Kendrick's rapping

    it does a lot

On average artits simply won't know anything about Bebop scales or Altered scales, syncopation and polyrhythms, shifting keys several throughout a song, writing charts for several instruments or other more complex musical ideas.
Kendrick's rapping on tpab and all these elements actually go hand in hand and I feel this musical ambition once tied to his writing is what makes for a pleasing listening experience.

It wasn't just kendrick rapping over jazz production, He's using his rapping to make all these elements sound better.

As i said i do not have knowledge on jazz, but those things going hand in hand on paper don't always make it sound insanely good, do they? When the elements are extremely complex it might force Kencricks rapping on an awkward spot, let's say Momma's 1st verse, you know what i'm trying to say?

To me it makes them sound good. And I'm sure it also sounds good to those who rated it that high as it was one of the reasons why they gave this album such a high score. Kendrick trying to experiment (I wouldn't call that experiment as its not new) isn't impressive, what is impressive to me is how good the final & overall product is.
Also a lot of kendrick's rapping isn't even rapping, its rhythmic poetry & spoken word... and poetry & spoken word in jazz were always very popular in jazz music...this is why some people say it's a jazz album with rapping in it, and not a rap album featuring jazz elements (I disagree with that, but to each his own I guess)

Also the reason why most old heads love this is because they're familiar with this so called "awkward rapping" as jazz was one of the musical genres that influenced hip hop, the first hip hop atists were already trying to find a way to approach these elements. they didn't praise tpab as a great but not easily accessible album because it had awkward rapping, but because the new generation (for the most part) ain't familiar with so many layered sounds.

But I'd say that for someone to enjoy the whole album, he would have to enjoy all the "black" musical genres. Like if an artist was to make a classic rnb/rock/jazz/hiphop fusion album, if you don't like classic rnb then some parts of this record are definitely gonna sound awkward to u.

Edit: its worth noting that Momma is like the kendrick's fans' favorite song on the album

That does not make it objectively really better, right? The fact that it approaches the same elements as early hip-hop albums is surely great, but the genre has evolved so much i would imagine the elements that artists approach have changed too, but that is natural and essential and it doesn't make the newer music worse, right?
Also, if it's unclear to some whether the album is a rap album with jazz elements or a jazz album with rapping wouldn't it be complicated to put it head to head against some rap albums. This might just be where the biggest disagreements appear
I also like Momma, but i do feel like the 1st verse doesn't really sound that good which on paper is probably very impressive and i think TPAB is a pretty good album and i've said several times that in 2015 my best first listen experience was with TPAB but after several listens over time i created my final opinion
I'm interested, where, how and why do you think TPAB tops let's say my personal aoty Summertime '06
Really need to go to sleep now though
