Jan 20, 2016 it does approach the same elements, but it doesn't mean there's no evolution. All the albums released these last few years feature elements that have been present in the game for years. Also I don't think there should be disagreements, a hip hop album is an album, hip hop is a musical genre. A lot of people say Atliens (its just an example) is a better album than reasonable doubt because the music is better... but it appears that Atliens is also a hip hop album so the outkast fans say Atliens is a better rap album than reasonable doubt. It doesn't mean atliens has better rapping though...but they key word here is probably "Album", a cohesive body of work and not just a collection of songs. But the rapping on this album is great, not top notch but great (kendrick was def a better rapper on sx80). Numerous flows, voices, rhymes (for those who care) but its all about the music. The beats are incredible and are arranged perfectly. The compostion is amazing, The features are all necessary and pertinent to the story. There's very rarely a moment wasted on the album. In my opinion what makes Kendrick great is that not only is he a great rapper but his "production" accentuates the ideas he's trying to get across and for me, this isn't an opinion I reserve for Kendrick it's what I use to measure every rapper by. When I listen to Jay-Z or Nas or Kool G Rap or with more more contemporary artists when I listen to Blu,J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Wale, Fashawn etc. I'm judging them by how they use the beat AND their pen, in Kendrick's case he's taken it a step further (in my opinion) and hired on some incredibly talented musicians and writers that can bring more to the table than the typical beat maker can. Good night btw
Jan 20, 2016 Some of the songs on TPAB are interesting but as has been said here before the album is rather pretentious and sonically monotonous and thus boring. I have never played it completely from start to finish, I just can't bring myself to fully listen to every single song. It's a dramatically overrated record, that's for sure.
Jan 20, 2016 Not the best album of the decade. But the best album of 2015, yes. I'm not sure I'll be able to properly rank his albums until all is said and done, I love all 3 for different reasons. S80 for it's relatablilty, GKMC for the story and almost every song has replay value, and TPAB because of the unique sound (which I enjoy), the concept, and its complexity.
Jan 20, 2016 tpab, a good album over hyped by yes-men and pop culture heads who have no opinion of their own and just praise what others do.
Jan 20, 2016 Little disappointed that the Kendrick fans feel this way about GKMC. It's really his best album.
Jan 20, 2016 Kendrick will never top tpab, I don't even expect someone to top it this decade. tpab > s80 > od > gkmc
Jan 20, 2016 yeah, kendrick himself pretty much agrees with this, tpab is kendrick evolving as a superior artist, like george clinton said, you can clearly see that he has a fection understanding of music on this album, he'll probably never be able to replicate such an artistic performance. He gonna top gkmc with ease though, but tpab? never.
