I just keep listening to this album and it has such a mixed genre vibe. The way it connects all types of music is genuinely impressive. It's not rap it's art! I think this is why so many on social media had such a problem with the album because they judge it strictly as a rap album. I have to admit I was kind of the same way... And if you judge it that way it's not so great. Flows are okay, voice gets distracting and annoying. Plus he doesn't even rap half the time. However I sort of opened my eyes to it and dropped the rap judgement and it's absolutely a work of art. It transcends genre imo.. Incredible. He's two or three steps ahead of the game

It's genre-bending but it definitely is rap and there's no debating that. There are elements of funk/soul/etc but very single song is primarily Kendrick rapping.

I know it's rap but I'm saying if you just take it at face value (as rap) it's nowhere near as impressive as it is artistically.
