lol man, so what are we going to believe here? Ratings are down because athletes are disrespecting the anthem/flag or because people are actually trying to take a stand on the social issues that are going on.

Pretty sure attendance and ratings aren't way down anyways, at least not compared to last year.

It's just Trump's usual comeback when he doesn't like something or someone, for him to say it's a failing business or whatever.

Trump is a moron but if the fans were really upset with kneeling they could not show up or watch football and that would ruin the sport....fortunately some people respect other peoples decision to kneel for what they believe in...either way if you don't like it don't watch it or support it...

Fans/Consumers give power to Athletes therefore they are the ones that can support it by watching/spending money on the games which pays their salaries...OR if it effects them so much watch TRUMPTV

Hypothetically if people didn't care about Basketball/Football...owners would lose money, tv networks, advertising companies would lose money...therefore players would not be paid half as much as they are...and no one would care what they would say...in fact they would be more like employees at a regular job with no say and power...but since they are the stars of the corporation they do have a say because they are the reason all those entities make millions...

The NFL would be justified in doing so but i doubt they will. You have to understand that the franchise/club you play for has you under contractual obligations to do or not do certain things. The franchises themselves are subject to the regulations of the governing body of the league. When a player is on the field he becomes a representative of the club and by extension the league itself. The franchises and league are also accountable to their sponsors. Essentially you as a player on the pitch aren't an individual. You are acting as a part of something much bigger than you involving other players, fans and big money. And they would be totally within their rights to prevent/punish him from/for doing things that could have a negative impact on either the franchise or the league or even the sport as a whole.

An actor in a play can't go out on stage for a romance, say f--- the lines and go on a off script rant about politics

It's not a matter of free speech. It's a matter of abusing the platform intended for entertainment and using it for political gain. It's a disrespect to the sport as it makes it secondary to your personal political opinion. It's also an insult to your contractors who might have to take some responsibility for your actions, and given the amount of money they pay you. you being a b---- on tv in front of millions in their colors is complete disregard for your employers.

It's a stand alright, and a d--- big one. But he's done something that might mean costing the people who pay him millions, millions. They are totally within their rights and would be totally justified for punishing him for this.

Do I think people are being disrespectful for not standing during the anthem? Sure...but it's their right to protest and for our president to call them 'sons of b------s' for doing that is mind blowing

We're in a bad bad place right now with Trump.

I would never sit during the anthem but if people get upset when they peacefully protest then what the h--- are people supposed to do to take a stand in this country????

See earlier post, they don't really have such rights while representing a franchise/club/league. They can be held accountable for this.

And Trump doesn't have the right to do a lot of things he's done when representing an entire country but he has did them anyway.

Difference is that trump is the one in charge. Not the NFL players. There's also a difference between a politician being political and an athlete in a match being political. A big difference.

and yet even tho it could cost the owners millions, most owners are supporting them. s--- the jags owner just locked arms with his players this morning.

and there have always been athletes that used their platform to speak out about social issues, nothing new about that. the only thing new is the method in which they're doing it

They are in no way obligated (legally or otherwise) to participate in s--- like the anthem
    How? And by who?

Certainly not by trump. He's an embarrassingly s-----y president, and overall just an angry, orange little f--- thats massively overstepping his bounds here. He has no authority over a sports league to condemn or call for them to fire people because they don't fall in line with his creepy forced patriotism

Most of u are just stupid. Yes they should have the right but these people are sitting at a time we're honoring people who died for our country. Why can't they just hold up signs after the anthem. The problem is youth look to NFL players like their heros and then the players sit down and disrespect our real heros. I'm with Trump. NFL has every right to suspend a player for kneeling too btw. Think about how other countries looking into and seeing the complete ignorance and division these players are displaying. On top of the they are protesting law and order. It's not gonna get them anywhere and I do believe NFLs attendence will be heavily affected if it continues. If players still protesting something like black on black crime or greed then maybe it might be okay but it's just doing more harm then good. Ignorant Players wanted politics in football and Trump gave it to them.

Woooow what the f--- is this s---? My team is really taking the bait for this stupid race s--- this far? Hope they all get fined and suspended a week and steelers take a automatic loss. Really wouldn't care and that's coming from a huge fan. This is taking it too far. Idk what to even think. I bet that f---ing overpaid Bell put the team up to this. He's a f---ing goon anymore.
