Hillary won that debate for sure, Trump was doing well early on but it started to unravel for him in the second half. They have both had better debate performances, I thought trump had a good closing statement but he wasn't able to defend himself adequately when it comes to not paying taxes or his various businesses. Was surpised that he didn't bring up the clinton foundation or that he didn't hit her harder on certain things, but I think this was done purposely and hes going to try to turn it up in the next debate.

I'm with you on the failed catchphrases - that s--- has to end

But in terms of her overall success, I don't agree at all. Keep in mind, debating Trump is a unique challenge. Look at the 16 opponents he faced in the spring (plenty of which were losers, sure, but there were others - Christie, Rubio, Cruz, etc. - who can be very effective communicators) and just remember how none of them ever really mastered their interactions with him, aside from some decent exchanges here and there. Clinton brought a level of dismissiveness in her responses to Trump's ridiculousness, which was important, but she never, ever descended into Al Gore levels of detachment. She gave policy specifics without ever finding herself too deep in the weeds (a la Obama, first debate, 2012). She was exactly good humored enough to ward off the "smile!" punditry, without ever looking like a clown who wasn't taking things seriously (Biden). She was unequivocal where she needed to be (primarily e-mails, but also her response to how unacceptable the whole birther movement was). Her barbs at Trump, as you mentioned, could be sometimes robotic and will hopefully be delivered more skillfully next time around...but they had their exact intended effect, which was to make Trump increasingly unglued and out of his element.

There is room for improvement in Clinton's performance and it was not flawless. But this went significantly beyond what I expected from her and was exactly what she needed at this particular point in the race. You say it didn't move the needle - I say in a week you may well feel differently.

OK, fair enough, though I never had high hopes for Bernie Sanders to begin with. To me the “unscientific polls” I mentioned reflect what I’ve observed in all along. The mainstream media would have you believe Trump is the underdog but in reality they are just a band of biased, radical progressive–liberal political deviants running a round-the-clock propaganda show. Americans aren’t that stupid; they know Hillary’s a liar and they know about the corruption in the foundation. That's why I think he'll win by a landslide. I don’t necessarily put too much stock in “scientific polls“ either since I’ve read that conservatives usually don’t even respond to polls.

I said a “fair election” earlier. I wouldn’t be shocked if Clinton steals the election if illegal aliens really are allowed to vote, as I’ve been hearing.

The things that stood out for me is when Trump called tax payers dumb and when he said that he was going to blame everything that bad that ever happened on Hillary.

If Hillary were to come clean about her lies she'd go to prison for a very long time. The same can hardly be said about Trump.

Come to think about it Clinton can still hit him with the Trump foundation and others, but Trump can respond regarding the Clinton foundation, and they've stole waaay more money than Trumps lmao

The Clinton foundation is an A rated foundation. It's looked at in the same light as the Red Cross. If trump were to attack her about the Clinton foundation, it'd just look like him catering to conspiracy theories (like the birther movement).

Uhhh that's fact. Numerous "charity watch" organizations have rated the Clinton foundation an A. If you want to believe in far-fetched conspiracy theories, be my guest but it's not based in reality.

Of course they have! Just like the media and now even the FBI cover up every crime this woman commits.

Just look at the e-mail scandal for the best example. If an ordinary civilian working for the government did what she did, they’d be arrested. There wouldn’t even be a case. Open and shut, bingo, you’re in jail. Fact. If you're given security clearance and you violate it, you go to prison. Never mind losing your job or your clearance. You'd be in prison. Not her, though, because she’s above the law. The whole ‘investigation’ was a sham! Same as Benghazi.

agreed, media has been rly overhyping how dominant/crafty she was

maybe this is yet another byproduct of how unfair this cycle has been for hrc, but the most important narrative from this isnt who won but does it matter that trump was bad?

This cycle hasn't been unfair to Hilary. Matt Taibi already addressed similar criticisms. I more or less agree with his stance but I do take exception that Journalists (and I am including all news personalities) have a responsibility to be factually driven and challenge narratives that are not factual, relatively false, and incoherent.

And, to Trump's ardent supporters, it doesn't matter. They've made up their mind and they're voting for Trump. They display an odd religious like devotion to him.

Sadly, the same is true for a decent percentage of HRC supporters.

The same logic can be used for various of Trump's actions throughout his life. He freely admits he doesn't pay taxes, he's bought politicians, not paid employees, promoted violence, engaged in racial discrimination, etc. If the average american did that they'd be in jail or would be homeless due to the financial repercussions.

To clarify @WPG, this is what I meant by this last part....some polls post-debate so far:

    National (PPP): Clinton +4
    FL (PPP): Clinton +2
    FL (Mason-Dixon): Clinton +4
    NC (PPP): Clinton +2
    VA (PPP): Clinton +6
    CO (PPP): Clinton +6
    PA (PPP): Clinton +6
    NH (GBA): Clinton +6
    MI (Glengariff): Clinton +7
    NV (Suffolk): Clinton +6

These were not the numbers we were seeing last week...something has changed since the debate, and it's unquestionably in Clinton's favor. There's question if she can hold onto these gains, of course, but the momentum is clear
