Dec 8, 2017 I gave it a 7 but it probably deserved a 6. The beginning of the song literally gave me chills and got me so hype. Classic Em sound ...then the beat dropped and I sighed and rolled my eyes immediately. I'm sick of the Rick Rubin sound man I'll admit. Then my ears perked in the second part of the song but then I immediately cringed when he was addressing blacks and was saying "us" (I am black by the way). Granted this was on first listen. Once I understood the point of the song and what he was trying to do, it's grown a bit but still leaves me feeling incomplete. I don't think lyricism will be a problem on this album, which is a great sign. However, there are a few lines (the dryer lint, generic "blacks are treated like trash") that just left me feeling kinda empty. I feel like old Em would've gotten the point across a bit better, but hey, I appreciate the message, just like I did with Walk On Water. After the first two singles, my biggest fear for this album is that it's going to have a great message ... but he's going to execute it in a way that's not going to allow it to have much replay value. I have hope since he has improved lyrically, which is what we all bitched about, but the delivery (which used to be one of his strengths) isn't exactly there in these two singles. And me personally ... I'm not digging this Rick Rubin sound man. I really hope Dre had much more or equal the influence of the production of this album as Rubin did.
Dec 8, 2017 most of the song doesnt even rhymc i expected somethig better from a guy at 45 years old. i don ever see him calling out clinton and what she did, yet it's repubsive and oppodite.....at least be even....give the minorities even $1M out of your $200M+.....he lies about his money....capataist.whee are his big donations to help minoities? he's hypocrite and on top the song just isn't ery good. nice encoe redo.
Dec 9, 2017 Really makes w.o.w seem great now, lol. I will absolutely skip this record Everytime listening to the album. The mixing, the rock verse, it's nasty to my ear. Porter as a friend of em is getting solid airtime for his beats (4?) On the album And he's such a s-----y producer... Sigh.
Dec 9, 2017 Pretty clever line "where'd you get the chip on your shoulder at", as if the black guy must have stolen it, no way he could own a chip on his shoulder legally.
Dec 9, 2017 I don't think it's fair to say that the Old Eminem would do it better and have it as a knock against him, though. I agree, he would have, but I think this is fine too. If we always compare him to his prime, we'll never be satisfied. I definitely don't dig the Rick Rubin sound either, but apparently the beat was made by Porter. Definitely not the greatest song he's made musically, but I think it does show focus, which is a good sign. I see what you mean about the addressing black people part, though. While I don't mind it myself (I'm also black), I definitely can see why some may not be too keen to the idea. I just chalk it up to him coming from a poor environment where he was surrounded by other black people, and him being extremely invested in the hip hop culture. If there's any white dude I could say that would be qualified to speak on it, it'd have to be Em. He'll never know what it's like to be black, and I'm sure he knows that and is trying to not cross the boundaries, but I think he's just seen so much s--- from the sidelines to the point where he can probably explain pretty well why things are the way they are. But as black people, it's not a new concept. In fact, I'd say the song is meant for the people who are feeling particularly uncomfortable right about now. He's not talking to us. He's talking to them.
Dec 9, 2017 I'm a little bit torn between on this song... I think the content, message and overall concept is great and kind of genius. On first half I kinda liked his flow, besides stretching some words and switching up voice and delivery for comical purpose, but the whole beat and sound is just too much and very messy. Same for the hook, it's catchy and got stuck in my head, but it's also very strange and messy. On the second half I loved the beat! This is the kind of stuff I wanted him on for years, but then he starts the stop and go flow which turned me off so much. It's not as bad as it used to be, but still...Overall not really a cure for Atrox Rithimus.
Dec 9, 2017 First listen I hated this song. I listened again after I got off work and understood it better so it wasn't as bad. It's a 6 or 7 for me. Message is great. Not really feeling the first half of the song though.
Dec 9, 2017 Maybe I'm just real blunted man but he rides that second half smooth as f---. First time didn't really pay much attention to the piano but that's what he's on man fuuuck.
Dec 9, 2017 Yeah I guess it's almost hypocritical on my part that I did cringe at first. We need prominent white figures behind us if we do want to see more progress, so I can't just immediately be on defensive when one tries sticking up for us and trying to relate to our struggles. Anyways, we're less than a week away and today I'm thinking it's a good sign that there's definitely going to be focus on this album -- which has been lacking from his music for a while now. But, I don't think he's going to be able to handle it once social media rips him apart for a terrible delivery. Unfair or not. It just kinda baffles me he named J. Cole, Travis Scott, Royce and Tech N9NE as people he listens too .... all people who can just craft together a good song that isn't so clunky and all over the place. Social media aside, Eminem's always been about receiving respect from his peers, but considering he left off 2 Chainz and Anderson Paak. it looks like (prominent figures in the culture), the industry may start to isolate him as well, which could officially spell the end of him.
Dec 10, 2017 This is true. This could be the end of eminem honestly. Unless this is like his MDTF and just blows people clear the f--- away. If the music is good in the end people won’t care who’s on it. But leave it up to marshal to f--- up the song with ed sheeran. Like that song could be absolutely amazing and he will come through with a choppy flow s-----y brat and whatever else.
Dec 10, 2017 This song is gonna be classic. This is how Em would sound if Relapse and Recovery would never been released
Dec 10, 2017 Funniest thing I read in the YouTube comments was a guy asking, "Does Eminem even Know he's not black?"
