Feb 26, 2021Along with the fact the US has increased renewable energy capacity additions tenfold (75%) & now accounts for a quarter of their total energy usage which they could continually increase at any rate they want & make oil obsolete, especially now Tesla’s market share is more than the top 5 US oil companies combined.
I see no reason for the US to continue extracting natural resources on external land regardless of political opinion, merely from a business (& ecological) standpoint.

We don't need to flex our power projection there. Let Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkey divide and rule the region. Let Russia have it's influence. It's a big d-ck swinging contest. We are no longer reliant on oil interests there, we have the largest reserves in the world.JEB, Ordinary Joel, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl and 2 others like this. -

Old people as in Congress? Because if so, I agree. It’s funny, I was reading an article the other day about a pharmacist that fills out medication for top politicians & they stated they even dish out medication for Alzheimer’s - that’s a scary disease for someone with power to be dealing with.
Edit:
Found it.
https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/10/11/16458142/congress-alzheimers-pharmacist
Mike Kim, the reserved pharmacist-turned-owner of the pharmacy, said he has gotten used to knowing the most sensitive details about some of the most famous people in Washington.
“At first it’s cool, and then you realize, I’m filling some drugs that are for some pretty serious health problems as well. And these are the people that are running the country,” Kim said, listing treatments for conditions like diabetes and Alzheimer’s.
“It makes you kind of sit back and say, ‘Wow, they’re making the highest laws of the land and they might not even remember what happened yesterday.'”Last edited: Feb 26, 2021DKC, Ordinary Joel, Sign Language and 1 other person like this. - Jan 6, 2026

well, what’s your argument, then? what i see you saying is: these conflicts go back ages and are extremely complicated and messy; therefore complaining about specific u.s. actions or u.s. meddling generally is wrong or reductive or futile. the first part is obviously true. the second seems, frankly, absurd: it’s very very difficult to make an argument that america has not had a net negative impact on civilians in the middle east over the past 30 years. appealing to the “complexity” of the entanglements isn’t, to me, a persuasive way to insulate them from criticism. -

Im saying it’s complicated because it is complicated lol. We can take out the morally charged arguments; war is always ugly. Period. I’m not arguing against that. I don’t “like” bombing or drone strikes. What I think a lot of you aren’t realizing is that the U.S. “leaving the Middle East alone” very well could lead to some of the bloody/gruesome consequences you want to avoid. The U.S. has been an actor in this region for decades, you can’t expect them to just leave & it be sunshine & rainbows. There would be a chaotic scramble to fill that power vacuum. Millions more would suffer & die in that fight.
Look at what happened in Iraq when U.S. troops pulled out. ISIS filled the power vacuum & established a caliphate while terrorizing women, minorities, foreigners, journalists etc. I’m talking mass murders, rapes, beheadings etc. again, I don’t think there are any silver bullets to these issues but we have to acknowledge that no matter what, unfortunately, people will die & suffer. Like I said, it’s all pretty much damage control.lil uzi vert stan, DKC and Ordinary Joel like this. -

What's been forgot about Obama and the redline was that during the 8 years of Obama the Republicans only driving principle was "if Obama is fer it, were 'gainst it." when Assad crossed Obama's redline with human rights violations Speaker of the House John Boehner proposed retaliation... Obama agreed to those steps... then Boehner criticized his own legislation and voted against it to spite Obama.
At the time it seemed really bizarre... but all the Foxnews and Talk Radio Zombies loved it because the Republicans were saying "no" to Obama again.
It's a big reason why Republicans don't have an ideology anymore... during the Bush43 years the Administration would give Rush Limbaugh and Foxnews their talking points and marching orders... now the sociopathic audience is what is steering the dumb ship that is left of that Party.Last edited: Feb 27, 2021DKC, Ordinary Joel and Enigma like this. -

nah but @Enigma I hope you know that in general I do respect your opinions even if we don't always agree. It's hard for me personally to justify drone strokes ever because I'm mostly a pacifist but I also know that the world obviously is not that simple.
Have you ever seen the documentary Bitter Lake? You prob know more about this stuff than me in general but I thought it was a good overview of how how badly the USA/UK/Russia f----- up Afghanistan/the region in general and gave extremism a chance to thrive unchecked.Enigma, Ordinary Joel and Sign Language like this. -
