she's a 16 year old foster kid who was on her phone at a NEW school w/o knowing the rules. she was called out, she became stubborn

alright lol, clearly narsh and skippy arent removed enough from hs to discuss this so ill respond to you. i mean... no. i literally shared info based on my personal background about why there needs to be a larger debate about why cops are even in these schools. its not my ideology, its not something i believe based off an article in the atlantic. l literally think this bc i went to a s-----y school outside southeast dc.

its not a question of justification imo. its volume, a... and b whether its fundamentally moot. im reacting to the absolutely cartoonish reaction this has received by people who have little understanding of what the cultures of some of these schools are like. the details may not 100% align, but i think that should also be applied to the kneejerk reactionaries who think this is the next trayvon.

should people be angry? yes. but its ultimately fabricated and self righteous bc theyve never been in a school like this, theyve never taught.

re: culture. yes. sandy hook was an outrage. the charleston shooting was an outrage. freddie grey. i wholly get the vehement responses there. something liike this, while shocking, deserves greater examination -- theres too much nuance about what mayve transpired based off my experience

K so just googled my school was like 45% white and the correctional high school a few minutes away was like 30% white the rest was 11% black 38% Mexican and then other. My school was at the halfway point out of all Texas schools tests wise and the correctional one was in the bottom 10%. Am i now "street" or "urban" enough to put in my two cents.

I understand what you're saying about context but these statistics don't reflect much, tons of people were on free lunch at my school even people who didn't really need it because the process was easy, and white people did just as much disruptive behavior as anyone else and as far as crime m--- is p popular with white ppl on the old side of town so the student body percentages are also a bit misguided to use.

I was making fun of you for being THAT kid because I'd have friends show up to school on acid or coke (and sometimes I'd partake admittedly) and be a bit distracting but that shouldn't result in use of excessive force. Leave dealing w rowdy kids to the campus security.

again: not shrugging off whatsoever. this guy sounds like he was george zimmermans cousin ya know. im mostly underscoring its important people have a sound perspective based off experience when theyre flat out pontificating (ironically, which im doing now)

u went to a s--- ton of schools and grew up in india -- im assuming u went to a s--- school in ur past. then again, jersey schools are pretty white sooooooo

it's still a (black) teenaged girl being viciously beaten by a police officer. i think outrage at that is justified, even if why he was there (both in the room and in the school more broadly) and the circumstances deserve more attention. is it possible that your distaste for the internet's outrage machine has caused you to ignore the nuance in some of our reactions? i'm not arguing to pull cops out of all schools, and i'm not arguing that students shouldn't sometimes be forcibly removed. but i'm outraged at this particular use of force. i get your desire to draw party lines here but i'm not disregarding any of your arguments. i get them, and i largely agree with you, i just don't think they diminish how heinous this video is.

Yeah man, being outraged that a 16 year old girl was flipped over her desk and dragged across the room is super cartoonish.

This isn't the situation you're making it out to be. This isn't a confrontational, consistently disruptive student. Stop it.

No, it's actually very simple in this particular case -- but other ones that might've ended the same could for sure be more complex and help you start a dialogue about these more impoverished and volatile schools.

But this isn't the one. You're trying to make it the one. But it's not. And you're trying to do this while downplaying peoples' genuine reaction to seeing a 16 year old girl assaulted. And that's what's gross, at least to me.

It's not about white or black tho when it comes to schools and kids who act out...it's almost always about income. Whether it be rich f---ing spoiled f---s, or people struggling 24/7 before and after they're locked up in a school all day

yeah my point is like... yes, its ridiculous. but what are we going to do about it? the guy is fired, but if we want to undertake any degree of self reflection, we need to question why cops are necessary, and whether there's anything going on culturally with the parents and students that could make a difference

yes, at the end of the day, i prioritized my own education over other students who were acting out for a variety of reasons. i was still popular and well liked but why would i get bogged down? dude do you know what kids from se dc are like?!
