    That's exactly what I'm saying, the song is simple. @Charlie Strangelove described it best when he said it's a jingle.

    But the point of discussion is the fact that WPG thinks the song is "trash".

    Also you can draw parallels between Drake and Applebee's but there is a difference between "middlebrow" and "trash" is what I'm trying to say.

    I said this exact thing about Drake less than a week ago on this site so I'm not going to argue that his music is anything more than surface deep.

    But given the context, it doesn't matter. Hotline Bling is a simple pop song and by even taking the discussion down this road, we're giving it more credit than it requires.

    Song is extremely simple and the formula works

    Drake's lyrics are basic and relatable, there's no improvement needed specially considering the type of song we are talking about

    You can agree or disagree with his lifestyle/moral but I don't see how that affects the track as a whole

    It's like criticizing the morals behind Daddy Yankee's music lol, it is not that serious (they are both completely different artists but share similar subject matters)

    Hotline Bling is not picturing Drake as the hero or the chick as a slut

    One of the best songs of the year? Maybe not, but "trash"?

    i doubt this is your intent, but you're effectively arguing that because "hotline bling" is a "simple pop song," we shouldn't judge it as stringently. since i don't think is what you're trying to do, i'm comfortable pointing out that that's absolutely insane. great pop songs are still great songs.

    You can feel jealous about your girl's lifestyle and the relationships she's getting into but, at the same time, respect her rights as a human being to have fun and spend her time in the activities she'd rather do at the moment

    Drake is just picturing himself as the sad millionaire that's currently needing her presence
