Jun 24, 2015 how can you not agree with it? there is alot of s**t around atm and this is a gem... sonically its different but thats the point, its meant to grab the attention of the listeners and not disguise the message under a hot beat..
Jun 24, 2015 ...so he puts the message on top of arguably bad / unapproachable beats? I swear, all you have to do these days to be considered a GOAT is: 1.) not rap about getting b------s or money 2.) not rap over a trap beat IMO, Sremmlife is on the same level as TPAB **for what they are respectively** but nobody will ever give Sremmlife the same credit they'll give TPAB.
Jun 24, 2015 i never said they were poor, i just said they wornt hot, just different. not the type of beats youd use to attract the mainsteram, and no of course rapping about s--- that sounds uncohesive and unrelatable makes an album average. what makes an album GOAT is putting together a project that fits together perfectly with a message that people can relate to. im not saying you cant dislike it, i was just saying how can you not agree with it? what makes it average in your eyes
Jun 24, 2015 The heavy handed writing, the lack of standalone tracks, it's a bit bloated, etc Never said it was great. The hyperbolic praise is nauseating
Jun 24, 2015 i agree with part of what your saying, but the stand alone tracks. i just dont think he was trying to make an album with too many stand alone tracks, like lets face it kendrick could have made another GKMC with loads of stand alone tracks, just think he did that on purpose..
Jun 24, 2015 I already admitted that I'm mostly just a salty, hater, f--- boy because it wasn't the album that I expected / wanted...but I guess I might as well continue to vent: 1.) I thought the beats were s---, personally. "Momma" being one of the worst I've ever heard with all the clunking and whatnot. I feel like a "good" album is one you can listen through once and be like "holy s--- this is amazing" not "well maybe I'll like it after 7+ listens and my brain is forced to like it". 2.) His voice is cheesy to me throughout the album. He does that thing where it's higher pitched way more than he should have. 3.) He let me down. I'm a GKMC guy. After a 2 year wait + all the hype, I wanted an entire album of Beats Commercial / Radioactive Remix Kendrick mixed with some Sing About Me Kendrick. Tbh, I only really liked King Kunta, Blacker The Berry, and Wesley's Theory. By "really liked" I mean those are mid-tier songs for me this year. I expected to be drawn to it way more than what I was. I will give the message/emotion/content credit. That aspect is amazing.
Jun 24, 2015 If I gathered a crowd of average (not hip hop expert) people and played "No Flex Zone" vs "[insert TPAB track here]" Which one would you think they'd like more? He tried so hard that the end product is an unapproachable album. To me, unapproachable isn't a good thing.
Jun 24, 2015 i admit i wanted an entire album of all that aswell, but i guess it sorta worked with me. and the second half of momma is brilliant. underrated song in my opinion
Jun 24, 2015 fair enough but you could argue if you played them both which song's lyrics would get more praise? among the whole music listening world?
Jun 24, 2015 This is true. Idk, I'm just a f--- boy. Maybe he'll go the hard, radioactive/beats commercial route for his third project...at least we know he can really do that at any time. Edit: By third, I meant GKMC, TPAB, "3rd Project"
Jun 24, 2015 hah fuccboii, yeah we can hope, i think i will be abit annoyed if his next is this serious.
Jun 24, 2015 Watch him f--- around and make his next album with rock/Yeezus-like beats... ...good lawwwd that'd bring me back lol
Jun 24, 2015 tbh I didn't want to listen to tpab until the hype died down. I was not impressed with gkmc at all but this album, oh my god, this album is fantastic. Definitely the greatest album of the last 5 years, at least to me. It makes yeezus and a lot of other acclaimed albums sound like mixtapes.
