legit gonna need to watch that episode another 2-3 times. the writing was pretty deep and i think to wrap my head around a bunch of what @Charlie Work just stated, and then some, it's gonna take a few spins. this show really was top notch. my greatest regret is opening a dialogue with a friend about a month ago who started to give me his "theories", which i later found he was regurgitating from reddit, which pissed me off because a couple of the big wtf moments were already in my head

As far as themes go, spiritualism btfo by that Church scene with delusional people and the Michaelangelo bit. Love that AI stories center around humanist stuff. The suffering being salvation bit was put the most explicitly by Ford. The whole aspect of memory being the foundation of identity and removing Bernard or Maeve's cornerstone defined by the loss of their children would destroy them was neat. Especially considering Maeve's cprnerstone is what drove her to go against her programming and npt escape. Seems she finally reached sentience. Bernard had to forgo his grief for his son so idk how those ideas reconcile. The fact that MIB couldn't suffer made him less human than the hosts, a counterpoint if you will. Lots of stuff to unpack.

Dead Ford having been a host would completely undermine the entire point of Dolores' arch. Also, wouldn't be surprised if Perkins only signed on for a season.

I get what you mean but seems like 35 years passed between Arnold's death and the current storyline. That's a lot of time to reflect on something, and realize your mistakes. Plus Ford seemed to share the same philosophy as MIB on the Hosts being designed to fail. I think it happened as he planned. He wasn't going quietly.

@Fazers, @Slyk, @Jehovah, just came across a post from another board where they mentioned the old picture of Ford and Arnold...

We know Ford is on the left, and originally we thought the old man next to him was Arnold.

Later on we find out it's Ford's father.

The reason why we don't see anyone on the right of said photo is because we're seeing the photo through Bernard's perspective, and 'hosts aren't meant to see anything that might harm them' (paraphrase). For instance, that's why he didn't see the blueprints for his design in that last scene last episode.

As a result there's enough space there in that pic for a third person to be situated, and for that person is Arnold. And most likely Arnold looks just like Bernard which means BERNARD IS THE HOST VERSION OF ARNOLD!

    :weebey:
