Eminem was big as f--- in Australia when TES dropped as well as the 8Mile film. Cleanin' Out My Closet and Lose Yourself was on radio constantly so it reached the younger generation.

Obviously it was in music but I didn't start actively listening to Hip Hop until I was around 15.
First song I ever heard was Break Ya Neck - Busta Rhymes

The 8Mile film was out around when I was 7-8, and the lead single from that film was Lose Yourself. That single and Cleanin' Out My Closet was frequently played on the radio. Hence why I said it reached the younger generation coz of the constant radio play. At no stage did I say I watched 8Mile as a kid. I just said it was huge as well as TES.

    Understand now?

Well since my original post said why was you listening to eminem and hiphop at the age of 7 i assumed you did since you commented. Hearing songs on the radio does not count as listening to hiphop. It might have been big when you was 7 but i cant seriously see a 7 year old watching 8mile and understanding most of the songs to get in to rap.

    You're dead wrong.
    Why doesn't it count?
Again I didn't watch 8Mile as a kid. I was using the movie and album as examples of how big Eminem was in that era and that he penetrated the mainstream market to the point that his songs got frequent airtime on major radio stations in Australia. As a result of said airtime on radio stations he reached the younger generation like myself and steered us into the direction of hip-hop.

    Was it over the radio?

If it was then it doesn't count as getting into hip-hop. I also doubt that you, back then as an 8 y.o., would be able to understand rap.

Got into it around 2001. Loved Hybrid Theory and Mike Shinoda's rap side of Linkin Park got me interested then one day at my mates he played The Marshall Mathers LP and I've never looked back since :banderas:

One of my mates HATED the ICP skit so my mate would always stick it on repeat and turn the volume up :westbrook3:

Because hearing Eminem on the radio does not mean your in to hiphop. i doubt many people heard lose yourself at 7 then went on the internet to find out what hiphop was all about. This isnt about the first hiphop song you heard

4 or 5 because I had a older brother who got Vice city+one of the Eminem albums on CD, and on Christmas morning I watched him play Vice City all day while we had the CD on.
