Sep 26, 2017 technical skill has nothing to do with rhyming. rhyming is writing. technical skill is performative.
Sep 26, 2017 I don't know guys I tried my best to describe what technical rap is if you still don't understand you're just rejecting English at this point
Sep 26, 2017 Why is Aesop your example of technical rap when he's not one of the best rhymers ever? You're taking into account his knowledge of words and symbolism so is he not "technical"?
Sep 26, 2017 i dunno what's more cringe, the fact we are in this thread talking to people from multiple parts of the globe about rap, or the fact that luver is reading this entire thing while saying to himself "hehe how pathetic kids, i totally am above you all by reading your exchanges and commenting on them but disengaging myself from any argument because i'm a frail fa----"
Sep 26, 2017 "expressing emotions in an imaginative way" is so vague that it ceases to be a useful critical term. people use "lyrical" to point to a very specific aesthetic style that usually has as much to do with production and subject matter sensibilities as anything else.
Sep 26, 2017 ok so a) i said in the context of hip hop. name me a hip hop song that doesn't use the mechanics or techniques of hip hop. b) why are you commenting on and trying to use examples of rappers you don't even listen to c) you literally used the words lyrical and technical interchangeably in this very thread. neither of them mean ANYTHING in context of hip hop and you're pulling them out of your a---.
Sep 26, 2017 To me being technical just means skillfully rhyming and flowing over a beat while saying good entendres and punchlines
Sep 26, 2017 Your only argument is "technical rap is a made up term to categorize things" I don't know about Tyler but all I'm trying to say is certain artists are known for being technical or lyrical. I don't even have to agree with the category.
Sep 26, 2017 It kind of like, does though how old are you i'm gonna feel bad if i'm picking on a like 9 year old just to be 100% clear: If Toby Keith started rapping, then yes, he would be a rapper.
