    Producing, recording, mixing, writing, getting ideas, going through samples etc can take hours.

    Also when your on a label you might have a deadline

    Constructing an actual good and creative song takes time. Everything from your voice, the production and engineering has to be on point. So, they're probably trying different flows over different production and different lyrics. It could take forever trying to find the right combination that works in a great way. And if you're a musician you're aiming towards perfection, so any little detail you're looking and studying to make it perfect.

    I think they do at least a few different songs, because especially for an album you hear a lot of artist say they have like 100+ songs that they have to narrow down.
