I used to have a really good app on my iPhone but that's long lost and I was wondering what some of you fellow movie collectors use to catalog your movies. I currently have around 500+ in my collection

I have blu-ray's for my most beloved movies (Goodfellas, Blade Runner, Fargo, etc) but the rest of my collection usually ends up on an external hard drive. I sort movies by director (for example, I have a Tarantino folder, a PTA folder, Scorsese, etc) and by franchise.

Realistically I'd love to have hard copies over digital copies but im a broke boy and its easier to sort this way

I just started buying blu rays in the last month or so and I've also been going back and forth with the idea of going digital but I don't like the idea of not owning a physical copy.

Having a physical collection of movies (or cds or games for that matter) is such an awesome thing I'm jealous of people that own endless classics on Blu Ray or DVD
I wanted to start my own at one point but never did so I use Netflix for movies

I used to keep a document with literally everything catalogued... music, movies, tv, everything. I updated it each time I transferred and thereby made concrete my external hard drive collection. I kept a separate but equally meaningful catalogue of purchased cd's and dvd's. Eventually I grew tired if keeping it up to date, and I realized that I was literally putting off collecting s--- just so I wouldn't have to update. So now it's more or less a free for all, but I keep all the bought s--- on the shelf and I keep my files pretty organized. Movies are all separate and labelled as "Director/Year/Title" to keep track. I don't double up, so as soon as I purchase a dvd or bluray its gone from the external. And so on..

here's an example of what it used to be like...
