Feb 11, 2015 I'd argue he's about to be 3/3. Section 80 is d--- near undeniable classic. Also agree with dude who said Tetsuo & Youth was a classic. People sleeping on that, moreso mainstream listeners, but the album ain't really for them. And as far as who realistically can give Kendrick a run for his money right now in the game... He ain't make the XXL Freshmen magazine cover yet.
Feb 13, 2015 I think Born Sinner is more of a classic than FHD. I can't back it up, because it really isnt (it's just my favorite rap album cause its the first one I understood that rap is perfect for eating p---- - I'm convinced power trip was about eating p----. In fact, i'd go as far to say the whole about is about eating p---- but dont quote me on that). When I first heard FHD it was amazing (I called it a classic, and put alot of my friends on), and it still is, but as I've let my hype simmer, I can appreciate it for what it is. A good album with a great story, which is very accessible and brought some much needed freshness/virtue to the game. Did it innovate? Maybe, maybe not. I like the way he handled the promotion for the album, and his idea to put the music first (it was nice to hear an album which was mastered so well, after so many years of listening to music which has been intentionally mastered to be "loud"). It does give it a sense of longevity, as he said in an interview once. But GKMC out does that, simply because of the subject matter at hand (as well as the grittiness in the sound of the album). I like to compare its effect to when illmatic dropped, it was one of the first times you heard that point of view (that of a gangster in the streets of NYC). Everything about the production puts you in the same f---ing streets I walk through every day. The sirens, the atmospheric darkness, everything about that album's production made me feel like I was walking through the streets with a pair of cops on my tail. GKMC does the same, but for a whole generation of kids who are living in the shadows of the story that Nas told. Kids adjusting to a world where the reality consisted of the truths found in illmatic (death, drug use, g--- violence, etc). Listening to GKMC, it puts you into that zone, where you understand the plight of a couple youths who sort turn the twisted cards they've been dealt into something fun or leisure-like, until s--- hits the fan. You feel all the realizations he's had. Idk FHD gave me an essence of that, maybe I just haven't listened to it in a while, but I know for sure, it didn't reach GKMC status outside of maybe A Tale of 2 Cities. The freshest perspectives he brought were probably on Wet Dreamz (a nice change from the typical misogynistic bs) and 03' adolescence (which is a good song for all those lost souls on the verge of conforming to the rough neighborhoods we are from - i've had similar experiences). Idk, if he stays on the same mission he set for himself on FHD (make it about the music, and music that he likes), he can probably even out do Kendrick one day (he is more accessible). I don't really give a s--- either way, they are going to collab one day and its going to be the greatest f---ing day ever. Tetsuo and Youth is definitely a class btw.
Feb 13, 2015 If we're judging by albums (lol) then yeah, Kendrick is by far the best in that category. But I prefer mixtapes, which is where majority of the content is found - it's basic knowledge. But both artists have 2 diff flows with impeccable lyricism. Hard to really compare the 2 in my opinion.
Feb 18, 2015 That will never happen.. Cole is great in his own right but will never be as great as Kendrick.
Feb 21, 2015 Does anyone else think section 80 is better than gkmc? Both are just undeniably good, to be honest I don't see the third album living up to them. Idk, maybe kendrick folds under pressure and Cole stays solid. Peak to peak I think Cole is just as good, maybe better at some things - see lost ones - but he's just too boring sometimes. Kendrick is very introspective and ever changing
Feb 21, 2015 Pre-Doctors Advocate Game & Kanye had more buzz than Lupe back then, he never capitalised off those two great albums like Kendrick has.
Mar 3, 2015 But..... Has Kendrick ever made a song as good as "lost ones" ? Serious question I can't think of one..
