Let me think about it real quick

... No, I don't. TBA has Change Clothes and these r-----ed skits on Threat (I love the song, but the skits should have been cut).

    The Blueprint
    American Gangster
    Reasonable Doubt
    The Black Album
    Vol. 2

    Now it seems better

    The Blueprint
    BP 2

I'm not really an avid Jay Z fan so I haven't listened to Vol 1-3 outside of the popular tracks. I do plan to get to them eventually though. I listened to AG because of its consensus here and I remember not being able to get into it and the production bored me. I listened to it twice 2 years ago and while I understand that's not a proper chance, I don't feel like re-listening. I don't feel like Kingdom Come, MCHG, and BP 3 deserve to be on his top 5 albums so I kept it down to 4.

And I'm sure I'll sound like an idiot, but can someone explain to me why the BP is so highly regarded? I feel like a lot of the tracks haven't aged well. I don't listen to much of it outside of the title track, Renegade, and Never Change.

The Blueprint came in at a time where Jay was practically at the zenith of the hip-hop industry and needed to make a bold statement to make his claim as being the best. Jay showed a lot of diversity on the album, tracks like Song Cry/Blueprint/Izzo/U Don't Know all succeeded as being well-rounded and captivating songs despite the different content. It's simply full of classic Hov records and the production is pretty much self-explanatory.

Genuinely surprised that so many people prefer Vol 1 to Vol 2. I always thought 2 was the consensus favourite of the trilogy

I'm guilty of never listen to Jay Z discography. I talk s--- about Skippy for not listening to TES and Outkast discography but later forget MY problems like this one.

I would definitely try to get into his stuff, it's just that I been discovering a lot of records and I'm tired of getting disappointed or get something with minimal replay value. Not implying this could be same case but yeah

@Jet i feel you, btw. i don't think vol 3 can be argued for the #5 spot, but it might be my fifth favorite.

Thanks for the reply. I don't really visit most of the album anymore so I don't hold it so highly. I guess I was too young when it dropped so I didn't experience the impact nor do I have the nostalgia for it. I remember The Black Album much better, especially since my cousin always played it.
