Jul 8, 2015 I agree he's a good artist, but as a lyricist? Are you sure about that? p---- tighter than a baby
Jul 8, 2015 from what I've listened to, thugger is a very interesting artist... he's different. and his work ethic is incredible. how the f--- could he have that much unreleased s---? idk when he became popular (I don't think I heard anything about him before 2015...) but the fact that he has that much material amazes me. as for an amazing lyricist... idk about that, but hey, what do I know his flow and voice is pretty unique. and I for one hated it when I first heard thugger on the radio. but when I actually sat down and gave it a try, there were a few tracks I genuinely enjoyed, and to be fully honest, that's something I never thought I'd say. in my opinion, you should definitely give him a shot. if you don't like him, that's cool, but you should listen before making that conclusion lol
Jul 8, 2015 i don't have to. his biggest hits--lifestyle, good times, danny glover--are some of the best written rap songs in years
Jul 8, 2015 Young Thug has been my absolute favorite musician since 2013... on the point of lyrics, you're looking in the wrong place if what you like is lyrical spherical atmospherical '90s hip-hop bs, or it's hard out there for a n----- cliches, or clearly enunciated lines... I won't sit here and list off all of Thug's "best" lines, but check out JBS Freestyle on youtube if you want to hear Thug doing a more typical rap performance, and then understand that the way he sounds now is the result of many conscious artistic choices and is no way indicative of deficiencies in his technical or lyrical skills... Also, Thug's delivery is unparalleled, imo. His songs go beyond lyrics for me, honestly, in terms of emotional register. Get That Money is pretty standard, I guess you could say, in terms of straight-up lyricism, but the way Thug raps/sings it is very powerful to me. I just refuse to believe you could sit and really listen to his performance on the first verse and not feel something about the way he cracks and twists and modulates his voice and its timbre. If clever (not funny, mind you--Thug doesn't really write jokes, he just finds backwards and novel ways to rap about well-trodden subjects) lines about money and p---- or shouts out to the friends back home aren't your thing, then just listen to the sounds and flows and the melodies... there's a reason why Young Thug is your favorite rapper's favorite rapper. Lifestyle and Danny Glover are absolutely some of the best written rap songs of the past decade, but I guess I wouldn't expect someone who stans a rapper as posed, lifeless, and artless as ASAP Rocky to understand that...
Jul 8, 2015 He sonically sounds good on tracks. nothing else, he's below average lyrically and content wise
Jul 8, 2015 When Young Thug cries out towards the end of Just Might Be, it hits me like a truck, jesus christ.
Jul 8, 2015 this post betrays not only a terrible misunderstanding and misreading of thug, but also a poor grasp on rap music.
Jul 8, 2015 Just because it doesn't fit your view, doesn't mean its inheritly wrong. Stop shoving your opinions on him.
Jul 8, 2015 "inheritly" this isn't "i think he's good! you think he's bad!" luke is suggesting that thug's "content" is somehow inferior to that of other rappers. first of all, music is not better or worse based on its subject. that's not a determining factor. second, in any case, thug raps about the things luke and people like him no doubt find meaningful and "deep"--poverty, personal loss, depression, etc. characterizing him as some unthinking consumer is wrong, or, "a misreading of thug." do better.
