Mar 22, 2015 Who's desperately calling it a classic? We're chill, and it's definitely a classic. Just wait till you see those album sales too
Mar 22, 2015 Or you're only focusing on the reactionary hype and ignoring the more level headed people still arguing in favor of this album
Mar 22, 2015 dude...we been calm as f--- for like a week...now that we are just doing what they are doing..we are "overreating" not sure why you even bother responding seriously
Mar 22, 2015 Yeah the attempts to underplay this album are almost as bad as the hype surrounding it At least the hype is out of a genuine place of love for the album/music The ones trying to downplay it are just focusing all the conversational hyperbole and ignoring all the good discussoons worth having about the record @Mathias @Brubbels
Mar 22, 2015 they made a valid claim..they asked us to take a seat...not sure why that isnt enough for you
Mar 22, 2015 I'm not questioning the talent, I'm questioning the notion he should be an all time GOAT. There are many artists out there that are top tier, but because they have limited amounts of music I wouldn't put them in my top 5 of all time. Biggie deserves to be called one of the best, but not a GOAT and not a top 5. That title should be awarded to somebody who's put out at least double the amount of music he's released and was able to keep the music consistently untouchable until they could say they had nothing else to prove (see Kanye, Jay-Z, 2Pac, Wu-Tang Members, NaS, Scarface, DMX as some examples)
Mar 22, 2015 Jay-Z had what? Blueprint 2 that f----- up the roll he was on? Then shut up everybody with the next 3 albums. NaS' Nastraadmus was weak but you can't deny he has had consistency to put out good music. As for Wu-Tang, that's your opinion. Ghostface has generally been great throughout his whole career
Mar 22, 2015 blueprint 2 is largely bad. kingdom come and blueprint 3 are atrocious. mchg isn't good. ghostface is one of my three favorite rappers of all time but if you think his last five years aren't tarnishing his track record, you're insane or not listening to the actual albums.
Mar 22, 2015 After American Gangster, Hov had nothing to prove. Same with Ghostface after 06. Then can drop lesser quality albums at this stage of their career as long as they aren't alienating themselves. Also Hov on WTT is HIGHLY unappreciated. Speaking of Ghostface, that last project he put out>>>>>
Mar 22, 2015 ghostface has taken to being a generic street rapper to pay his bills. heroes eventually die.
Mar 22, 2015 I used to attribute the whole Mafioso fantasy trend to Kool G, but honestly I think Biggie might be more responsible. Thoughts?
Mar 22, 2015 well, you weren't wrong before, and you aren't wrong now. kool g rap 100% pioneered the style, and there's no doubt that the guys who eventually popularized it--rae, biggie, ghost, nas, to a lesser extent jay--were close listeners to g rap and borrowed a lot from him. it's important to remember that cuban linx and it was written were made concurrently. so while the latter was read overwhelmingly by critics and "real hip hop heads" upon its release as a reactionary sell-out move, it was no more calculated than the purple tape. nas just had the disadvantage of having a prior solo album that comes from a different perspective. biggie's popularity is probably what made the mafioso stuff endure for the rest of the 90s, but i think he was no more a pioneer than rae and nas,
Mar 22, 2015 You know there's something fishy about an album when opponents of the record desperately try to claim that its "just good!!" and nothing more. @Brubbles you call Eminem albums either "just good" or outright awful on a daily basis, and can defend your opinion without batting an eye. Explain why TPAB is "just good," without only referring to the people being hyperbolic in their praise.
