I can't really rank my top five since they're all really close and it can shift depending on my mood etc.
But Jay is absolutely right in there. Kanye, Atmosphere, Nas, and Andre 3K probably round it out for me.

Top 5-6 I'd say without much thought. 4 classic albums ofc.

Wherever you rank Jay-Z, Nas should always be at least one spot higher

Jay Z is the least creative rapper to reach GOAT status. We should have respect for that alone.

I'm curious as to why you think Nas may move further down your list but not Jay...if anything, I think it's the other way around. Life Is Good is definitely better than Magna Carta, at least to me, and I'm a bigger Jay fan.

Life is Good is definitely better, but I never want to listen to either project tbh. It mainly comes down to a bit of personal preference. I think Jay's much more charismatic. Nas has a tendency to bore me, even on some of his better projects - like Life Is Good - whereas Jay is much more consistent and charismatic. Not to mention Illmatic is the only album Nas has that's better than Jay's top 3 (RD, Blueprint, TBA) imo, and I might go so far as to include American Gangster and/or Vol. 1 in that.

It's not necessarily that I think Nas is "getting worse" so much as I could see making the argument for other guys jumping in front of him (i.e. Biggie, Ghostface, etc.)

I'm interested in seeing @JOR's Top 10 rappers list after reading his posts in this thread.

Anyway, he'd probably rank around 6-8 in mine.

    Term-X relevant.

It Was Written, Stillmatic, God's Son & Lost Tapes are lightyears ahead of AG & Vol.1. Stillmatic & Blueprint were equal, the Black album is better 'track for track' than Blueprint. Nas is a bigger character on the mic, Jay is a bigger character off the mic.

Biggie doesn't have the body of work Nas does, and nobody is including a member of the Wu in their top 5, not even Raekwon.. if we did that Jay wouldn't make the top 5, never mind Nas.

Jigga doesn't even rate in my top 5 tbh

    Travi$
    Kanye
    Bino
    Ab Soul
    Mac/Earl

That's mine. Keep in mind those aren't who I think are technically the best just my personal favorites

Idk Jay has some good s--- but for me consistency is a big factor and asides from most of WTT the only thing I've liked from him the past decade is Crown
