He took rap to the next level and we're lucky he came. but i just mean that people still think he's one of the best lyricist oat or one of the most technical rappers oat when rap and lyricism has advanced so much since and his rhyming became outdated the moment G Rap stepped in the game... Yet hes still one of the better rappers of the 80s

Apr 18, 2017 ok yeah I agree with what you're saying. I think the problem with GOAT lists is that they don't make the distinction that the levels of skill varied across the eras of Hip-Hop we've had. Rakim is overrated when he's elevated above better lyricists of the 90s, 00s and 10s, simply because the technical ability is bound to improve over the years.
