He's one of the most honest artists in the game, always very open about his thoughts and life in damm near all his music so I can never call him fake. I'm sure those lines are mostly either for maintaining street cred like any rapper would or he low-key trolling

To some degree, yeah you're right. It did come and go, it was a moment, and whose really listening to that song any more? I forgot Jay Electronica had a verse on that that joint to be perfectly honest.

But him saying no one he mentioned would want to work with him anymore? He named Big Sean and Control was a Big Sean record. Drake took the verse way to serious. In an interview with Angie Martinez he called the verse 'harsh words'.

Fam has never been spoken to harshly before or something idk :noah2:

He also got mad emotional over Macklemore sending Kendrick a text after the grammies and not him. Glad he called macklemore out on doing that all for attention though.

No but the fact of the matter is, calling someone fake over lyrics is bad as sentencing C-Murder to life in prison citing lyrics as evidence.

If you're a suburban kid from Forest Hills, Toronto, and you're conducting yourself like a thug or a d--- dealer, I understand the argument. But this has never been the case with Drake aside from his bottle throwing incident, which was an L in and of itself.

Kendrick was upset about the situation and text as well. He addressed it on Ebro's show last month.

Here's my issue with Drake, which really isn't an issue, because I don't mind the guy. He makes good music. It's not really my type of music, but I still respect what he does.

Today's hip hop scene is WAY different from what I grew up on, and Drake has bars, so he gets a pass. I don't think he'll ever really suffer a fan loss, because of the environment of hip hop right now.

However, I look at Drake as a singer who raps, not vice versa. He kind of reminds me of a way softer Nelly.

I don't think he's fake though, I just think he doesn't have the bravado to be a "rapper".

There's just something that puts me off about him. I think the dude is kind of soft, although talented. I think he's afraid to speak his mind, not necessarily because of his lack of talent (because he has TONS), but just his nature.

So, I can kind of see why a lot of people see Drake as "fake", because I doubt we'll ever get a record like Control from him.

In all honesty, if Drake spazzed, it'd probably send him into another stratosphere in hip hop. Kendrick vs Drake would've been AMAZING for hip hop, but then Drake took the high road. I can't blame him, but it was disappointing as a fan of hip hop. I was actually getting excited to see them go at it. It not only could've boosted Kendrick, but it could've also boosted Drake, and sparked hip hop again.

But there's a difference between soft and fake. Drake isn't fake. He's just soft.

Chris Brown is a singer who raps, Drake is a rapper who sings.

But to your point about him being 'soft' and not speaking his mind, its conscious the way he leaves the commentary outside of the music. From 50 Cent the industry learned how to craft hooks. But they also learned how to work yourself in a box. He says it in the interview, that artist who go down that path lose engagement with their audience when they build expectations in that way and then stray from it.

That's not to say that he's afraid to speak his mind though. This is an image from the ESPYs while he sings 'Real music doesn't always win Grammys'

Which is fine, I don't discredit him, I respect him for it, therefore I see him as real, because he's not going back on what he says.

Drake plays it safe. Is it a bad thing? No, because it's a smart business move.

But here's the thing. A rapper cares about numbers, but also has BRAVADO. If a rapper FELT dissed by another rapper, they'd have enough confidence in themselves to diss the rapper back. Drake, whether it's confidence or playing it safe, is scared to do that, therefore, my view of him is being soft.

I know it sounds like I'm insulting him, but I accept Drake for what he is. I don't listen to Drake for rap lol. He's a decent singer, and makes catchy songs. I listen to him for the same reason I'd listen to a Trey Songz or a Chris Brown.

Drake could have both worlds. I think the dude could be a monster rapper, and absolutely change the game. However, I think he's soft, so I don't think he'll ever do that.

But, then again, I can't be mad at him, because he's being himself, therefore I don't see it as fake.

    Feel me?

A verifiable instance of Drake being fake is the many sets that he claims. Fresh out of MiaCanTuckHoustLantaVegas. Not that I care, but traditionally repping your region is important. Lyrically, I don't think it's a big deal.

I would be too, losing to Macklemore at anything is embarrassing and he added insult to injury by being a total simp and uploading the text to instagram.

Also I don't really understand why being "soft" is an argument against Drake as an artist. You don't have to rap about murdering people to make good music.

Y'all tripping if you don't think Drake blends rapping and singing well. I've thought he was a good rapper when he first came out but since Take Care songs like Lord Knows and 5AM in Toronoto, he's shown that lyrically and as a rapper he's way better than people give him credit for. Even though I feel he dumbs it down to a fault sometime Drake has got great bars imo.

The whole control thing is unfortunate. The way Drake took it was definitely the wrong way. What he's actually saying about the situation holds some truth, but the salty manner in which he expresses his views is not a good look. He should have just done what KRIT, especially, and Cole did. Drop great responses that took Control as competition and drop great albums afterwards.:manny:

The posts in this thread make me think you guys heard his singles and then judged him off that. I can't fathom how anyone would say Drake isn't a good rapper, or how he's a singer first and a rapper second lol.

I know you guys haven't listened to his catalogue fam.
