Aug 5, 2016 There's elitism in all circles. It's mostly blowback from that stretch of time where every Youtube comment was about "real hip-hop".
Aug 5, 2016 it's a negative trope, that's why it exists..lol are you kidding? "SPIRITUAL LYRICAL MIRACLE INDIVIDUAL CRIMINAL SWIMMINGPOOL" is so overused that it became a joke. it's literally there to make fun of those kinds of rappers that just rhyme syllables without the words making sense. they're all s--- i dont like, have quotes or whatever, but a lot of people were calling it a jazz album, pretentious as f--- name, and its whole presentation and aesthetic is such a holier than thou faux artistic lame package all rolled together and people have sampled pac. that's one thing. who, aside from kendrick, has ever chopped up a tupac interview and pretended to be TALKING TO HIM. It's beyond corn it's f---ing cringe comp tier. but you're the one that brought intelligence into it and that's f---ing r-----ed anecdotal you have not spoken to every single person outside of this forum. maybe your circle of friends likes eminem [in 2016 for whatever weird reason] but most people who list eminem as their favorite rapper are the same people that say "I don't listen to rap, it's all about money drugz and bitchez, except eminem I like him!"
Aug 5, 2016 why are conscious rap fans always trying to prove a point about how the music they like is good/not bad what are they trying to make up for why cant they be like literally everyone else who doesn't like conscious rap and not try and be apologists for their favorite artists
Aug 5, 2016 at the end of the day there's nothing inherently wrong with enjoying 'lyrical miracle' or 'conscious' rappers, Just don't post about it on this site or you'll get meme f-----, maybe for good reason, i mean the stereotipical fan for that kind of music is condescending and egotistical, maybe you deserve the social ridicule for liking that kind of music, there's only one kind of fan at the end of the day....
Aug 5, 2016 Conscious music generally requires more focus and dissection to enjoy, so naturally the people that put that time in will be more willing to defend their favorite artist
Aug 5, 2016 i think there's a major inherent flaw with conscious rappers, a lot of the time they're coming from a place of intellectual superiority and the way they approach a lot of subjects is as if they're trying to preach, or "enlighten" people (hence the term conscious). it's so arrogant and annoying to hear, and it's arrogant and annoying to hear their fans try and preach their favorite rapper's superiority for preaching. now every individual with a s-----y background feels like they have the need, and more importantly ability to tell their story like they're some kind of unique porthole into that world. obviously that doesn't 1:1 fit every single rapper labeled conscious but it's a flaw that exists in a lot of them
Aug 5, 2016 I feel like hip hop is in a great place right now. Theres music for everyone. At a time like 2007 I couldn't say the same thing. But with the music comes elitist fans
Aug 5, 2016 how do you not realize that the first half of this post is incredibly elitist lmao are you just oblivious to the things you say
Aug 5, 2016 they're all s--- Why i dont like, have quotes or whatever, but a lot of people were calling it a jazz album, pretentious as f--k name, and its whole presentation and aesthetic is such a holier than thou faux artistic lame package You literally said Kendrick called it a jazz record anecdotal you have not spoken to every single person outside of this forum. maybe your circle of friends likes eminem [in 2016 for whatever weird reason] but most people who list eminem as their favorite rapper are the same people that say "I don't listen to rap, it's all about money drugz and bitchez, except eminem I like him!" None of my friends except for one and he's a reel rap type fan but the rest respect what hes done for the game and acknowledge that he is one of the greats.
Aug 5, 2016 Not going to disagree, but i will say that it's a very subjective topic, some listeners (such as myself) enjoy some somewhat preachy messages, preachy in and of itself is a pretty subjective term, My view on this discussion has always just been to let people enjoy whatever they do, and not to judge them on their music taste, i know a lot of conscience rap fans come off as condescending assholes, but just because i enjoy kendrick doesn't mean i hate some carefree music I hate tech n9ne, but i've never had a problem with someone i know liking him, and this site has a problem with that
Aug 5, 2016 you just took it upon yourself to say that you deemed hip hop wasn't in a good place 9 years ago who are you to make that call you elitest
Aug 5, 2016 Thats my opinion. So everyone who calls late 80s to mid 90s the golden era are elitists?! and thats not the first half of my post Plus if you ask anyone id bet you 99 percent would say the same thing
