Aug 5, 2016 really? Using high level math in one of his songs to convey a metaphor, using vague descriptions of rap album covers as metaphors for the chorus of one of his songs, using vague and complex references on his title track to convey a theme, the album was over complicated, no music fan should expect everyone to listen to an album over and over and dissect the lyrics just to understand it, i love it for its complexity, but like i said there's a skill in simplifying complex topics... Cryptictness doesn't imply talent
Aug 5, 2016 A lot of casual rap fans need to be told what's acceptable. Right now, conscious commercial artists like Cole or Kendrick are acceptable, most other conscious artists aren't. There was a time when Public Enemy or BDP were popular in the late 80s and early 90s. They were some of the biggest artists of their era. It seems like if you're going to make conscious music and want to be popular, make sure you're doing it on a record label or distributor with a lot of influence.
Aug 5, 2016 Most conscious rappers are trash, but they're still better than Future, Young Thug and them other meme rappers.
Aug 5, 2016 Problem is that lazers had production that didn't match lupe's lyrics at all, it was just jarring
