Apr 26, 2016 well if you think he'll be bigger than wayne ever was, then you obviously have some concept of how to make these comparisons so why don't you shed some light on that
Apr 26, 2016 Thugger is in a position already to be able to make s--- with guys like Ye and Elton and he's barely started. He has the potential to go so much further, especially with Thug-lites like Travis, Yachty and Uzi getting so much attention and making the appeal to that type of rap that much broader. There's nothing weak about the argument yall being very narrow minded right now.
Apr 26, 2016 wayne is a 10 prime 50 was a 7 drake is a 5 history will remember all of them, i wonder if history will remember thug
Apr 26, 2016 To be fair I don't think anyone can replicate Wayne's run. People move on so fast from music nowadays unless it's your favorite rapper. Soundcloud, streaming, a million rappers that sound the same, and the general population doesnt really care about who's actually making the music. Music is moving faster than ever and it's impossible to do huge numbers.
Apr 26, 2016 yeeee but 50 is a good person and gave thug a co-sign and so that might translate in to him making astronomical strides in popularity i think. u know how that s--- go
Apr 26, 2016 yo fam i apologize for being overly aggressive for no reason at all lmao, but we're talking about lil wayne here. i'm not dismissive, the first reply in this thread is me saying he's going to be a mainstream success
Apr 26, 2016 ig et what Hasman is saying but what hes saying seems to be re: commercial success solely and my main confusion is with how you accurately compare commercial success in 2016 to 2006 well i kind of did but it was too abstract for you, which i understand...im asking you to explain to me how else i (or anyone else) can try to predicate this when sales arent a valid variable anymore you said radio play, i asked if you could expand on that you also said like, social media presence and s---, which is more along the lines of what im getting at when i say "culutral icon." like, i think thug, when he reaches the level of sales u predicted, has the potential (in his music and his image) to stay relevant for a looong time and become a remembered staple of hip hop how we can ever prove someone like drake, let alone thug, are as big as wayne or 50 or em i dont know and am looking for answers for
Apr 26, 2016 how many artists got 15 songs in the top 100 simultaneously, granted i haven't fact checked that statement but it wouldn't surprise me if he had more
Apr 26, 2016 He has the potential but I don't see him being as big as 50, Wayne, etc. back in the 2000's anytime soon. Too many people dismiss him without giving him a chance. Kinda OT, but does anyone know how much SS3 has sold?
Apr 26, 2016 If people paid attention to thug I sincerely think he would be all over the radio. As it stands he's probably the most dismissed rapper of all time and still getting spins with Best Friend, and has a cult following. Of course ANY claim that x will be bigger than the biggest artist's is unlikely otherwise they wouldn't be the biggest, but Narsh's points of Thug's early-career success and how that lends credence to him being well-received once the mainstream catches on is a lot more valid than y'all are giving him credit for.
Apr 26, 2016 No. I'd say he's done a better job sustaining his popularity, but he hasn't really come close to 50's peak.
Apr 26, 2016 right i agree 100%. so in the end its not just about thug...no one in the new era can earn the same commercial accolades, can they?
Apr 26, 2016 not prime 50, 50 made platinum albums for himself and his artists like it was nothing dude handed game a career lmao
