Sep 12, 2020paul wall has been a tremendously respected houston rapper for almost two decades now; slim thug had a huge album with other hits; mike jones even followed this up with more charting singles. again—none of this matters when we’re talking about how good a single song is. but you brought it up.

Compton is slept on. It doesn’t have as many radio party hits as Chronic or 2001, but I consider it a third classic. If you take out the 15 year anticipation, it stands well on its own. Kendrick and Anderson Paak really shine on this album.Michael Myers, Ordinary Joel and RetiredAccount like this. -

Ehhh.....It's a decent, slightly above average album. It's definitely not a classic but it's far from bad. But it's pretty forgettable overall.
A good comparison would actually be Jay Z's American Gangster album: Another decent album that had good reviews and great rapping/beats but lacks a distinguishable quality that makes it comparable to Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, and The Black Album in terms of being a classic.
So, it's a Nay for me, though I can see a case for the other side.lil uzi vert stan, Ordinary Joel and RetiredAccount like this. -

I can see that for sure, but to me this lacks the innovation/creativity to be compared to his more significant work and lacks the quality/polish to justify the former. Whether it’s here, a gunna and lil pump feature, or somewhere in between, its a matter of execution not aesthetic imo
Again I say all this but I haven’t listened since like idfk, months after release? I think I’ve switched phones twice without downloading it to my library either time. I’ll revisit tnDKC, Ordinary Joel and RetiredAccount like this. - Dec 18, 2025

Absolute f---ing fire. It may not be what people were expecting, but the depth of the production outweighs 2001 tenfold.
Deep Water is f---ing insane production.
Dre turned into a legitimate rapper on this for the first time ever.
Every legend/OG & new artist obliterated everything in their path.
Talk About It is the only flaw to a phenomenal project & hella under appreciated overall.
Dre shouldn’t have made it an Apple Music exclusive when AM was just beginning & they should’ve released music videos too.lil uzi vert stan, Ordinary Joel and RetiredAccount like this. -

Of course it is worthy just it didn't meet my and many others expectations. Also too little Dre style production for my liking. So even though it is not exactly Detox it's definitely a good album.BIGFOOT, Ordinary Joel and RetiredAccount like this. -

In my definition, a classic doesn't have to be great or even good. For example, songs like Gangnam Style or Despacito, while trash songs, can arguably be considered classics since everybody knew them and they were sort of a generational experience. I consider Take Care a classic in the same vein.RetiredAccount, lil uzi vert stan and Ordinary Joel like this. -
