    thug was pushing a style into unprecedented spaces. fetty wasn’t. this isn’t a criticism—i like fetty’s singles well enough—but he wasn’t ahead of his time. he was a moderately talented dude who filled a space that had been empty since ja rule.

    yeah I mostly agree w this, I guess my problem is that the phrasing of the question accidentally devalues his merits in this category cus u don’t HAVE to be pushing the envelope to be doing something under appreciated in its time.

    And I’d argue he still was a bit more original than these responses imply buuuuut that’s not a very meaty argument

    idk if this is true but I heard dude just got into real estate and s--- n just didn’t need the music anymore. Got out while the getting was good instead of coming out of pocket on big name beats for a follow up and potentially seeing diminishing returns.

    ayyy so i slept on dis. so i get the critique dude hopped on established style, but honestly, why is that a strike against him but not XYZ other rappers today. thats kinda my prompt in a nutshell - this dude perfected a sound, get his success but still was knocked a point. wouldnt be the same now so he was kinda ahead of the times there feelma brother @skip @WPG ? :mynig2:
