May 14, 2015 How did you deal with it? Did you go through a phase of depression? Settle for a job that was underwhelming mentally as well as financially? I recently lost my job of 8.5 years and have no idea on where to start in terms of finding a job that will allow me to regain my former salary and lifestyle. I know that I'll have to start at the bottom and work myself up but it's difficult to wrap my brain around what happened at the moment
May 14, 2015 Had a buddy who was laid off last year. He was depressed at first, but started to view it as a vacation. The company paid him severance over the next 8 months so he sat at home playing PS4 and masturbating all day.
May 14, 2015 What did you do that 8.5 years of experience wouldn't at least help you avoid starting from the bottom with the next job?
May 14, 2015 It was a pretty easy job tbh man..didn't take a whole lot of effort to do it just alot of common sense and quality control over the work. I was paid $21 an hour to test valves in an oilfield based shop..most places if not all of the surrounding shops pay around $12 or so with no room to move up..not to mention the oilfield is doing horribly right now..so not awhile lot of luck finding a job in that field
May 14, 2015 Lol I wasn't fortunate enough to have that much of a severance..they gave me 72.5 hours of vacation time plus the 15 or so hours I worked that week..it's been about a month and I've been working in repairing my house to get it ready to be sold. .fortunately my gf has a pretty good job so that we can stay afloat along with the money I had saved..s--- sucks
May 14, 2015 I feel no matter what field, your experience should help you work your way to a managing type position, no? Like, the job your boss did -- you dont think you're qualified to do that? I don't think you need to look for the exact same type of job unless you're really adamant about that
May 14, 2015 By no means do i want to continue in that job. it was so boring and required very little thinking to do the actual job. There was no mental stimulation not to mention the workers there were less than desirable in almost every way. I've definitely trYing to look at it as a blessing is disguise. the money aspect sucks pretty bad though
May 14, 2015 Yeah I got laid off when I was 18 when I was a carpenter . Was only in the job 4 months though & was working form 7-7 so it was annoying since me & the guy who I worked with didn't get on at all.
May 14, 2015 I have only been laid off my my first job when I was 19. I loved it and I collected unemployment which was like 65% if my average pay. But you're talking real world with a big boy job. I'd try to take it day by day, fill out some applications in fields you think you'll enjoy and like you said if you NEED the money, get something to just keep you going for the time being. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Maybe you become the next + member
May 14, 2015 I got let go of my first real job out of college less than a year after it started. Really s----d, everyone got let go. I didn't get severance and if you're entry level you're expected to have 3 years experience which makes zero sense, so finding a new job immediately was tough. I was off for almost a year on unemployment which was a lot less than I made so it wasn't anything like a vacation, but I had a cool hobby on the side that paid me. Plus extra time to masturbate so it wasn't all bad.
May 14, 2015 Masturbating is definitely the upside on my end as well. It really does help with all problems haha
May 14, 2015 If it takes me losing my job to become a plus member then so well be it. Definitely worth it if I had to be completely honest with myself
