    I only like podcasts that recap old tv shows I use to watch. It’s fun nostalgia. But I hate podcasts about random dudes talking about politics or current events. Twitter and Tiktok gives me that source of entertainment in an easier and shorter format. Sometimes I listen to podcasts on long drives, when I am not in the mood for a playlist of music. But 80% of the time I rather listen to music

    the problem with music is you’ve already heard the song so you know what you’re getting..with podcasts, you listen for new information/perspectives on topics you care about

    i drive for fedex though so i have a lot of time to listen to back to back 3 hour podcasts lol

    I usually listen to podcasts in the target language I'm trying to learn. Most of the time containing more information on said language and culture.

    I learned Spanish that way and now I'm going for Japanese. Started Italian as well but I dropped it for now even though it is pretty similar to spanish. Listening to podcasts, if possible with transcripts for reading along/checking for words you didn't understand and reading short stories is a really neat way to learn a new language and worked pretty well for me. My native languages are german and to an extent egyptian arabic even though I don't speak it that well (hope to change that one day).

    I know you speak spanish as well, are you planning on learning a new language?

    wow amazing bro, good luck with the japanese..complete rewiring of the brain for that

    i kinda gave up trying to add a third language unfortunately. i got luck with spanish, i went to an elementary school with an immersion program so half my day was in spanish then i moved to costa rica and panama between 9-13 and solidified the accent

    the two languages i tried to then pick up were french and german but again, it’s not the same unless you can fully immerse yourself..i would totally live in japan for a few months. just checking BNB’s in tokyo, they’re uniquely modern and very affordable

    Thank you bro! True, immersion is key but I guess rarely anyone can move to another country for a few years to achieve that. I think even simple things like changing your phone language or reading news that interest you in another language can give you some level of immersion. Once you know the basic grammar you can directly start with that, even if you have to read the same text or listen to the same podcast episode over and over again until you understand everything. Gotta power through the first month and after that you'll see your progress growing fast which is really rewarding. And since a lot of english words are based on french and german belongs to the same language family as english, I think you can definitely get a grip on these languages really quick if you decide to pick them up again at one point :emoji_pray:
