Aug 26, 2016 Following the news that former welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre had “started the USADA process” to mount a UFC comeback after three years away from the game, it appears that “Rush” has actually, finally set a date for his official return. Big Brand Boys is reporting (citing “inside sources”) that GSP has been locked in to return at UFC 206 on December 10, 2016 in, where else, Toronto. St-Pierre’s opponent has not been named as of yet, but it’s being suggested that he was “offered a superfight” in Toronto with names like Nick Diaz and even middleweight champion Michael Bisping finding their way to the top of the rumor mill. While a fight with either of those two would likely draw the most eyeballs, it would directly conflict with what welterweight champ Tyron Woodley told Sirius XM’s Jason Ellis just a few weeks ago. “I got a text message from Georges St-Pierre saying that he’s in on the fight,” said Woodley. Though not yet confirmed by UFC officials, news of St-Pierre’s comeback has been steadily gaining speed for close to a year now. Back in January, St-Pierre’s coach, Firas Zahabi, told ESPN that the former champ was “in Montreal right now…getting his body in shape to make a splash soon.” In June, the man himself made an appearance on The MMA Hour, telling Ariel Helwani that “I know for a fact I could go back and fight if my management and the UFC get to an agreement.” Despite these statements, St-Pierre’s comeback was vehemently shot down by noted liar-liar-plants-for-hire Dana White, who clarified during a media scrum that, “Georges St-Pierre is done. He is retired, he will not fight again.” https://www.yahoo.com/news/georges-st-pierre-reportedly-long-210433033.html
Aug 26, 2016 @redsoxx @Charlie kinda contradictory to everything Dana's been saying lately. I think Dana's been so negative because he & the UFC obviously want the belts to be the main concern of fighters, who lately have publicly stated they're more interested in making big fights (Conor, Woodley, GSP, Diaz bros).
Aug 26, 2016 We knew this when GSP began USADA testing exactly 4 months prior to the event set for Canada. That was also a dead giveaway that Rory was headed to Bellator. That makes me think he'll be competing at WW, but there are other fights to be made. I kind of want to see GSP-Silva once and for all. The UFC is clearly on board with money fights. They have all the power in matchmaking and have used it to set up fights that don't quite make sense for a meritocracy (which it really never has been anyway). If they felt differently, they'd act differently.
Aug 26, 2016 I'll believe it when I see it. If this does happen, it'll be interesting to see what compromise they come to over the Reebok deal (the thing that's allegedly held this whole thing up)
Aug 26, 2016 With the kind of money that Nate and Conor got, not to mention some of the guys on 200, I completely believe they can pay GSP enough not to care about sponsorships. The UFC payscale is blowing up for the top 1% of fighters.
Aug 26, 2016 It's a little late for GSP-Silva but I'd definitely be interested in seeing that. Better than Woodley or Diaz.
Aug 26, 2016 Sure, it's late, but I'd rather they both stick to money matches anyway. GSP was one of my favorite fighters growing up, but I really don't want him sniping somebody like Woodley or Bisping to get a belt. Silva would be a fun and interesting match up you could sell. For all I know they'll have Conor fight him or some stupid s--- like that. Really don't care to see him fight Nick again either.
Aug 26, 2016 He would be a nightmare for Conor and probably show up on fight night close to 200 lbs. He's one of my favorites as well so the last thing I want to see is him come back and get knocked the f--- out. Lawler would be a cool matchup.
Aug 26, 2016 Conor against a legit welterweight would be a massacre. He would've made the ideal marketing tool for GSP's return to WW. The fight I want to see at that weight would be Wonderboy as he's looked amazing recently and shut down Rory. Woodley wise, I think GSP would do what Rory did and make him look completely ineffective.
Aug 26, 2016 Wonderboy would be a tall task after taking 3 years off but if anybody could do it, it's GSP.
Aug 26, 2016 great technical fighter...but ive slept through several of his boring fights...takedown, ground and pound, win by decision
Aug 26, 2016 GSP was and always will be my favorite UFC Fighter, but i just don't see this happening. I would love to see him once again on the octagon, but this is not the first or the 10th time we have heard that he plans to return, yet he still hasn't.
Aug 26, 2016 Yea I've never really understood why he's such a big PPV draw, he's gigantic in Canada but that's not where all the PPV buys are coming from. Very dominant champ, but there were plenty of those (maybe not to the same degree) before him and after him with more exciting styles that don't draw a third of the PPV buys. Well he was never speaking in certainties before. Hes now enter the USADA testing pool and they basically are bringing a PPV to Toronto for him. Hop on board buddy, its happening.
Aug 27, 2016 Fitch was tailor-made for an exciting GSP fight. Zero striking and couldn't take him down.
