Dec 27, 2015 Since we're feeling nostalgic, let's take a trip back to memoray lane. Theres a similar thread but I want this one to be more detailed. I wanna know your story. 1. Which year was it & how old were you when you first heard Em ? 2. What was your first song ? 3. Which song turned you into a fan ? 4. Which song turned you into a huge fan and why ? Don't mind to add whatever details you can think of. I was about 9 years old when I first heard Em. MMLP had just come out and TES was on the way. My first song was either The Real Slim Shady or The way I am. My brother was older he & his friends were all about Em ( everybody was). He always used to turn the volumne of the music up in his room and I remember hearing The way I am. I was like what the heck is this ? I've never anything remotely close to that, he rapped like his life was on the line. Honestly, there was nobody at his level at the time, he was unique. Literally all my friends were Em and D12 fans and soon 50 cent would join the family. My big brother could afford a CD player ( huge back then ), he owned everything from SSLP to Encore. So when he was out, I would sneak into his room, take the album booklets with the lyrics and try to rap along. I always used to rap along k--- you, at least I tried. The way he juggled with those syllables, he made it seem so easy. I remember listening to Kim ( " Kim.. KIIIIIM.. Why don't you like me ?!! ) Funny thing is, I tried to fight liking him at first although I low-key loved his music . I guess I thought he was offensive or whatever. However, as I got a little bit older, I realized the undeniable genius of this man and how exhilirating his music was, by the time I heard Sing for the moment, there was no turning back. His music was an outlet for me to escape from a lotta bs back then and I'm thankful for that. Edit : Encore dropped 2 years later and I could enjoy it back then, I loved Spend some time, I was still in my very early teens. All in all, good memories
Dec 27, 2015 I first heard him in 2002 and it was Without Me. My sister tried to burn bootleg version of TES on CD and then I acknowledged him. It wasn't until 2006 that I became a fan of his music. Funny enough, I came across Shake That video and it interested me in some weird way and reminded me of him that I had to check out his music. TRSS turned me into a fan and The Way I Am made me even bigger of a fan. Then I listened to all of his albums chronologically. The End.
Dec 27, 2015 Great post OP. 1. Which year was it & how old were you when you first heard Em ? 2010 .. when a famous arabic rapper stole Not Afraid flow so I wanted to check out the original song. TBH I hated it at first .. replayed it for 5 times hoping to like it.. then a friend of mine played Love the way you lie .. it was so huge .. but always thought its bs and didnt understand why people consider Eminem to be the best rapper ever. Then at 2011.. I was browsing youtube.. don't know how I ended up with The Real Slim Shady, The Way I am, Role Model, Cleanin out my closet, Hailes song, No Apologies, Beautiful, Lose Yourself, Like toy soliders, Mocking Bird, When Im gone, and Sing for the moment. I was already depressed .. Eminem 1st and 2nd verse in Beautiful and its outro .. were a real cure and helped me through one of the worst times on my life .. I thought . I want to be a badass like this person. And since then became a Stan. As the time goes I started appreciating Relapse and Recovery. I didn't know Encore was considered trash cause I always loved it. When Berzerk dropped I was so f---in dissapointed .. and when heard MMLP2 I lost my hope in Eminem because he went to say things fast without emotions and without the aggressive bad a--- vibe. Then as the time passes started appreciating it.. and now I consider it one of Em's best. Now Im waiting for another Eminem prime.
Dec 27, 2015 1999, I was 13 and heard My Name is on MTV at like 2 am which made me a fan. When I heard Don't give a f---, I became a huge fan
Dec 27, 2015 @DMX d---, 2010, that late ? You never heard of him before that ? And yeah, Beautiful is a masterpiee.
Dec 27, 2015 I was in middle school when my friend showed me mockingbird.I just loved it and starting listening to everything he ever did. I use to always think his name was spelled M&M haha because after my friend showed me mocking bird i looked him up on my computer and was mind f----- when i figured his name was eminem. He released relapse about a year later and i dont care what anyone says but that is album is dope as f---
Dec 27, 2015 LOL .. Yea, I'm from the UAE (Dubai) so he wasn't that famous here yet. And I always loved the Arabic rap. But when I heard Eminem at 2010
Dec 27, 2015 Agree .. but I enjoy it in a certain mindset. Like sometimes I consider it the best Eminem's album ever and genuis as f--- phonically, lyrically and creatively. But sometimes I just don't like to listen to it.. it sounds so horrible. Personally, I consider all Eminem albums like this.. for every mood there is a specific album that suits it. And no album is better than another.
Dec 27, 2015 So you acknowledge there's already a similar thread, but instead of bumping it you make your own? The first songs I heard was "Til I Collapse", and "Won't Back Down" because of Call Of Duty and "Lose Yourself" later on. I heard Almost Famous when I was getting high, and checked out the rest of his discography. It was a couple months before the MMLP 2 dropped. Stopped listening to him religiously in 2015 after a nasty breakup, and found better artists.
Dec 27, 2015 LOL .. you broke up with Eminem ? ..or how does your break up makes Eminem less good ? Santa: What do u want for christmas. Me: a unicorn Santa: come on .. request something realstic. Me: An artist better than Eminem. Santa: What color do you want the unicorn to be? Your statement is horribly wrong .. the worst statement in SXN80 I ever heard.
Dec 27, 2015 You must not read your own posts Don't worry. You'll grow out of your Eminem phase eventually. If you don't think there's any other artists who are better than Eminem, than you really are the blind stan multiple people say you are.
Dec 27, 2015 @DMX @Boyz N The Suburbs Y'all gonna get dickslapped if my thread gets derailed. Just let the people answer, don't turn this into a who's better thing Boyz, youre still pretty young, right ? Assuming because of wont back down
Dec 27, 2015 You can see my age on my profile. I started listening to him when I was 15-16. I don't find him as enjoyable anymore after listening to more artists outside of Shady.
Dec 27, 2015 1. It was 2007 and I was 7 years old. I heard about him in December when I was reading the news and they said he was rushed to hospital due to overdose. I think I recognized the name and searched him up on YouTube. 2. When I'm Gone was the first song I actually heard in 2005. I was very young but I vividly remember it. 3. Lose Yourself was one of the top songs I found on YouTube. That and When I'm Gone got me interested. 4. When Relapse dropped I bought it the day after and became a big fan. But it was Recovery that made me a Stan.
Dec 27, 2015 d---,It's so interesting to hear these stories. Seems so surreal to me hearing about people looking up Eminem's name in 2007 @Boyz N The Suburbs Nothing wrong with that. To each his own
Dec 27, 2015 I don't want to get dickslapped by OP, but if you don't like Eminem new stuff then you should get more IQ points to appreciate his complex genius style, flow, and lyrics.
Dec 27, 2015 Started getting interested in rap around 2001ish, went and brought Stillmatic and Blueprint. Heard Renegade and was absolutely blown away. Next was SSLP, MMLP and Devil's Night. By the time TES and 8 Mile dropped I was at full Stan status.
