Jan 19, 2015 kenny didn't fill GKMC with dre prod and aftermath features. Think about this, of the four artists to have proper debuts on Aftermath, the two who used all dre production on their debut fell off after one classic (Game & 50) because they couldn't make a classic without the banging dre beats they rose to the top with. Eminem didn't fill SSLP with dre prod. And followed up with two classics. When he tried the dre production formula, he dropped the two worst albums of his career. Kenny did the same thing with GKMC, keeping dre minimal on it. Dre filled debuts are a curse, and Kenny knew that. genius.
Jan 19, 2015 the Massacre was ok. Should have been classic considering the work he did on the documentary.
Jan 19, 2015 Really doubt Kendrick did that for superstitious reasons. Dre doesn't produce much anymore. Kendrick came in with his own team and for all we know his second major album will be a flop. Worst thread ever.
Jan 19, 2015 Flop? For all I know, your comment is the worst comment ever. -official projections for Kendrick's 3rd album; 500K FIRST WEEK (Hitsdailydouble) -The new song he performed on colbert is already one of his most praised songs and "i" just been crowned best hip hop song of 2014 and 5th best song of 2014 by 600 critics. The critical acclaim is stronger than ever and hes expected to double the numbers that he did with his previous album. Flop you said?
Jan 19, 2015 He's already comparing Kendrick's yet to be released second album to other albums and calling it superior. Not only that, but citing the reason as not working with one of the biggest producers in rap history knowing that it would curse him. Not to mention that albums by big name artists regularly move units regardless of quality, but that's entirely beside the point. The Massacre, an album cited by the OP as a flop, did over a million the first week. I am surrounded by idiots.
Jan 19, 2015 Yeah, and Kendrick's next album could be too. That's why this thread is stupid. Do you understand yet?
Jan 19, 2015 Actually OP is kinda right. You can also find a lot of articles saying the exact same thing about Dre's artists. 50 Cent lost his own sound when he signed to aftermath... People wanted to hear Dr Dre more than him. They wanted to hear 50 on some west coast s--- when the guy is from NY.
Jan 19, 2015 Dr. Dre beats are a curse that make you drop your best albums and become world famous. The observation that Kendrick is in the minority of Aftermath artists to have his own team separate from Dre is an interesting one and worth discussing. Saying that it will be the deciding factor of whether Kendrick has sustainability is ridiculous. If his third album dips he'll be in the same boat as 50, Game... and Lupe and KRS and tons of rappers with nothing in common. Very few musicians sustain the peak of their career for longer than a couple albums. That's just how it is.
Jan 19, 2015 well after a couple albums you run out of things to say its hard to make classic albums when your saying aload of bs
Jan 19, 2015 Kendrick didn't want all the chips on the table at once. Besides Dre is to f---ing lazy to make beats and Kendrick didn't want people to say that he got famous because of Dre.... Whoever produced cartoons & cereal can produce an entire Kendrick album and I'd be fine with it.
Jan 20, 2015 tbh, i think a Kendrick album fully produced by Dre could be one of the greatest albums of all time. just imagine Kendrick flowing over some of those Relapse beats?
Jan 21, 2015 It'll be hard to top The Massacre, i don't think he will. And i believe Street King Immortal will be better than Massacre since 50 is hungry again.
Jan 21, 2015 of course he gonna top the massacre lol, All kendrick albums are already at the very least twice as good as the massacre. Do you see the massacre on these "greatest albums of all time" lists from respectable magazines? No you don't. Why? because its BAD. objectively speaking, GKMC & s80 are almost flawless while the massacre is MEDIOCRE at best. If kendrick drops an album on the level of the massacre, then its fair to assume he fell off. But don't worry, I don't see an artist like kendrick dropping an album as wack as massacre.
Jan 21, 2015 strong co-sign Kendrick dropping an album on par with the massacre would be a HUGE step backward... But his fans seem to think hes about to drop his best album so its all good
