Jul 21, 2015 always felt kendrick was slightly influenced by bob dylan or jim morrison...wonder if he actually is or if he's just name-dropping here
Jul 21, 2015 He needs to do a little more @Akio i bet if we were to count the hours of Kendricks Discography and that of Hendrix they're probably within the same time table especially if were only talking about the albums Jimi put out while alive. However, i believe Kendrick can achieve this fate among millenial's and generations a few years older. I feel the older generations wouldnt ever accept Kendrick or any of these rapper/ hip hop artist to be in the same breath as Jimi or the Bealtes because the genre of music is so different though the message through the music is similar. Theres clearly a distinction in execution as Kendrick is doing is through pure lyricism. Jimi Hendrix da god>>>
Jul 21, 2015 Every rapper says this, reality is rappers will never be mentioned alongside those historic artists. If Kanye, Jay and Eminem can't hit those conversations then none can. Hip-Hop is still quite a niche genre, they don't even televise our awards bruh.... They applaud a Macklemore over a Kendrick Lamar because the outside world have no understanding... It's just not happening.... Rappers don't become Michael Jacksons or Barbara Streisands... We gotta accept that and do what we can with it.....
Jul 21, 2015 I agree with what you said but Hip Hop keeps growing more everyday. Compared to many other genres of music, hip hop is fairly new. Its slowly becoming the most popular genre of music worldwide. I do believe one day they will be held to the status of Michael Jackson, Beatles, etc. Acts such as Jay Z, Eminem will be remembered as legends in music one day, maybe just not yet.
Jul 22, 2015 That's actually really interesting. The Documentary stays underrated, I would say it's better than TPAB
Jul 23, 2015 About being a legend. Nah. Not until the genre is more well respected. Negative stigma still surrounds it often. Maybe one day though. He's the type to have that potential. And I wish the average friend of mine really tried to give TPAB a listen and not shy away from the realness. -------- I think what Kendrick said about racism is still kind of careless because the people he speaks to aren't the only people that hear him. And he doesn't really explain much, which a problem with a lot of people speaking on issues. That's the kind of thing people take as an excuse to ignore racism. It's a relevant point. And it's something the black community should understand. But racism doesn't care if you respect yourself or each other. It never did and people wonder why the community developed the way it did over the last century. Although a community that respects itself and each other is what we need in the black community, it is almost impossible for black people to fix on their own, and when fixed as it is in many situations, it still wouldn't change the underlying problems. But at least Kendrick's music helps. He can just kind of say what he wants about social issues and it won't harm him.
Jul 23, 2015 The LP does not need to focus on everyone's perspective. It targets the black youth in the projects mostly. And since it offers a better worldview than most kids can develope on their own it's definitely helping. The issue of racism is a tough one, because the black community will need to become a more solid and closeknit group in order to combat it. Don't get me wrong, i would've preferred it too if white people had gotten more ways of relating to it.. but it's clear that Kendrick used this LP to really solidify his respect in the black community.
