Jun 2, 2015 FIFA President Sepp Blatter will step down as head of world soccer's governing body but only after the organization's executive committee organizes a fresh vote "for the election of my successor," he said Tuesday. He did not say when the election would be held but said it should be as soon as possible and before the next World Congress in May 2016. Speaking in Zurich, Blatter said the reforms he has tried to implement over the years have not been enough. "I felt compelled to stand for re-election, as I believed that this was the best thing for the organization. That election is over, but FIFA's challenges are not. FIFA needs a profound overhaul," he said. He continued, "While I have a mandate from the membership of FIFA, I do not feel that I have a mandate from the entire world of football -- the fans, the players, the clubs, the people who live, breathe and love football as much as we all do at FIFA." Blatter won a fifth term Friday despite a week marred by arrests, investigations in the United States and Switzerland and questions about whether he was the man to rebuild FIFA's reputation. Blatter failed to get the required 140 votes in the first round of voting to prevail. Another round of voting was called, and because Blatter would need only a simple majority to win the second, his rival, Jordan's Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, conceded. The president of the embattled organization will continue his duties until a new president is elected, he said Tuesday. "I love FIFA more than anything else and I only want to do the best. I decided to stand again for election for the good of football," he said, referring to his re-election. Source: CNN Is this a good step or will the curruption go on but with a different president?

Jun 2, 2015 Word is that Berlusconi is gonna be the next FIFA president. Much better than Blatter. Trustworthy and s---....
Jun 2, 2015 Do you guys think this will be a big change regarding the curruption or will it stay the same but with a different president?
Jun 2, 2015 Update: A swiss investigator said that the swiss Federal Office of Justice is currently not investigating against Sepp Blatter. (this will probably happen tho unless the american office of justice is already doing it)
Jun 2, 2015 It's quite facepalm-worthy: If he decided this one week earlier, a new voting wouldn't be necessary at all. But you can't really blame him because of that: The pressure got extremely big since the voting because of the new breaking news. That's why he will resignate. The initial second candidate already announced that he will candidate once again.
