Dec 11, 2025 context matters. I am dead serious about GC2. I could even grant that the rapping is great on GC2, but it is the content, the meaning, and the purpose of the song that makes it horrible.
Dec 11, 2025 but you are right that he complains about media when media doesn't care about him. People have been asking me "has Eminem even been making new music?" for more than a decade now. Even with Relapse, at which point he was still cool, nobody cared. The album is extremely offensive and morbid, but nobody cared. Everyone was just "ah, Eminem". So you're right, when he complains about media, he is still stuck in 2002 in his head. He is irrelevant to the public.
Dec 11, 2025 “The press” were not “hounding” Revival *crying MSN emoji* It was just random people on Twitter calling the album awful. And rightly so.
Dec 11, 2025 Underground is so f---ing awful. Terrible. Completely lacks the great wit that Slim Shady built himself on. Sounds so forced. Pre-clone Slim Shady was way more than just throwing out random “goofy” and “zany” scenarios like lesbians in wet cement, hitting f--s with onions and j---ing o-- at boxing matches.
Dec 11, 2025 The beat is ok though. He should have used that beat to respond to Rick Ross with a full diss track instead.
Dec 11, 2025 I felt the 2010 Westwood verses were a modest step in the right direction. Basically Underground 2.0 with sharper lyrics and vocal delivery. The real highlight of that freestyle though was the part about MJ, but maybe not for the reasons he intended: I ain't seen s--- like that since I went to Mike Jack's Took the Elephant Man's skull, f----- it, and put it right back Handed my d-ck to Bubbles while he s----d it and licked my nut sack Gave him a reach-around while I f----- him right in his butt crack Nah, I ain't takin' it back, fa----, f--- that! He was obviously still sour over the blacklash from Just Lose It and related accusations of racism. But doesn't this just perfectly sum up his absolute impotence when it comes to defending himself against race-baiting and browbeating by blacks? Esp by then. Considering he'd just come out in enthusiastic support for Obama for the simple reason that he is black, it's no wonder he had to stoop to rapping about raping MJ's pet chimpanzee to work through his lingering resentment. Then he acts like he just said something so offensive like anyone would care LOL. Guy was just plain confused. And I love it.
Dec 12, 2025 I often read this kind of criticism towards Underground, but I don't think it's fair. In Prelapse to the Relapse interview, he talks about it. He says it's the kind of rhymes he did in the Hip Hop Shelter, when he was not famous and nobody cared. Who are we to say that's not what it is? I trust that he knows what it was like in the shelter daily and he's not really a clone. And like I said, if this was done with Shady voice, it would sound exactly like the Shady we know.
Dec 12, 2025 I think you are reading too much into it. It was just supposed to be disgusting. But it's funny how Eminem's political views are just a means to declare "look, black people, I care" Even his hate towards Trump is just that. He has no political ideology other than "I don't want to be seen as racist". Which is funny because there are black Trump supporters. And even with all that, he is still seen as an intruder. Speaking of which, if Eminem was truly offensive and carefree, he would have said n----- and made fun of jews
Dec 12, 2025 The hip hop shelter days were full of witty battle rap 1 line punchlines. Underground is not. He also said Relapse as a whole was a “call back” to the Slim Shady days. I wouldn’t trust a single word that weird sober clone says.
Dec 12, 2025 Relapse is an isolated bubble of an artist achieving full detachment from the world and being consumed entirely by the act of creation. There is no Eminem in Relapse. He was merely an instrument to translate divinity into a format of a rap album. Relapse is the epitome of rap. All rap before and after, including Eminem's work, is just an approximation, an attempt towards Relapse. Relapse is otherwordly, standalone piece of art. What I am trying to say is, there is no call back because Eminem did not reach that height before. He himself is not aware how grand Relapse is, nor he fully understands it himself. He, in words of 2pac in Ghetto Gospel, went blind and let the Lord do his thing.
Dec 12, 2025 It’s literally just a 37 year old man who didn’t know how to rap anymore and lost his sense of humour, his wit, his aura, and his whole personality after he became sober, so had to desperately try and force both. That’s it. Nothing more.
Dec 12, 2025 I am sad that it has not been given to you to understand and enjoy Relapse. For many are invited, but few chosen.
Dec 12, 2025 and nobody can take away the fact Eminem is rapping his best on Relapse. The flows are immaculate, even if you hate the content
Dec 12, 2025 Btw it is kinda sus how both pre-clone and post-clone Eminem have been homophobic, misogynistic, paedophilic and racist in songs but never Anti-Semitic. Very telling.
Dec 12, 2025 Relapse flowS are just Recovery flows but slightly better. They’re nowhere near the flows of MMLP and TES
