It's 2026 and I'm still bumping My Dad's Gone Crazy. The third verse is flawless. TES is my favorite Em album

Over 100 pairs of signed shoes are going up for auction for the Marshall Mathers Foundation. All worn and some dating back to 1999. Anyone going to bid?

Last time I checked My Dad's Gone Crazy is one of his best songs, and not just thanks to the third verse. The entire song is a brilliantly self-conscious, self-satirizing relapse to a phase he'd largely outgrown. One clue of his artistic maturity is his not bothering to attempt the fool's errand of outrapping his most technically impressive feat (arguably up to that point the "Mind with no sense in it, fried schizophrenic" scheme in I'm Back, which he tried most obviously, and foolishly, to outdo in that I Will verse, as given away by the postpositive use of "rented"), instead well deservedly sitting on his laurels and relaxing for most of the song, while sacrificing nothing in the way of his classic, charismatic wit. By the end of the album he felt he had nothing to prove to the world anymore.

This approach didn't work so well on the next album starting with Evil Deeds, where that hard-won confidence and razor wit had degraded into decadent complacency, self-loathing, and early cognitive decline. In fits and starts on Relapse, which can be seen as a kind of spiritual sequel (or "flushing out") of Encore, he succeeded where he'd previously fallen face-first. In Déjà Vu most obviously, but the last verse of Hello was just as good, one of his last great "vintage Slim" verses.

    It's almost like he knew:

Oh, those were the days, they certainly were. It's hurtin' me to know that I'll be closin' that curtain for good, (Word-word, chk-word-word, chk-word, chk-chk-word)

I never connected "mind with no sense in it" scheme with I Will's "born a cynic and more demented with an orphanage with a morgue up in it".
Good catch, but I'm not sure if it's on purpose. Sometimes Eminem forgets he already did a scheme. Like in Rap God "enough rhymes...get some people through tough times...punchlines...crunch rhymes" he already did in 8 Mile "still unsigned, having a rough time, sit on the porch and kick dumb rhymes...when it comes crunch time.."
So it's probably a coincidence. I don't think he set out to outdo it.

I wouldn't compare those songs in the first place to try and prove he didn't attempt to outdo himself. Didn't he try to outdo all that on White America's "lyrics lyrics constant controversy sponsors working..."?
And he tried to outdo The Way I Am with Soldier (and failed).

But Encore is the definition of someone who has nothing left to prove playing around after he won the game. On the whole album he is just relaxed and not trying to impress. Some would say he is drugged out and cannot impress, but he can. Even Big Weenie has an impressive part (the munch a bunch a crunch n munch part). Rain Main is brilliant.

I took the "storage bin rented" part as a subtlish wink to his most hardcore fans, or maybe just to himself. Copying the whole rhyme scheme would have been too unoriginal, and therefore would ruin any satisfaction in matching it. ie beneath him as an "MC": (A true MC, it's what he'll do just to see if he still has it and if his skills mastered..."

    Not such a leap considering:
    @~ 6:50 "I've always been chasing MMLP"

Which is clearly what he was doing in Antichrist, Habits, Fuel, Evil, Animals etc etc. It's already old.
