of all the bs things eminem did from 2004..to me this is the lowest...i dont hate marshall nor do i hate mmlp2...but now that everything is settled..why the f--- was mmlp2 named that? it embarrass me when i type the name..its like an african starved child compared to brock lesnar..both albums cannot be compared

then there is the blonde hair

do you think Eminem seriously thought this is at the level of mmlp? or do you think he did it to sell records? i mean he even mentioned it on bad guy which is the old classic lair tool..let me mention it before they do!!

honest to god question, in your humble opinion...why did he dye his fair and call it mmlp2?

Definitely. It was all a marketing scheme as people were expecting to hear the Eminem they used to love, but sadly it was a bad attempt of boosting the sales.

he named it MMLP2 because it would make that album sell more and i guess they also wanted to get more people to buy the original MMLP

After alienating different people for 3 albums straight, he probably wanted to please everyone and wasn't creative enough to come up with something new and fresh. Milking the nostalgia from his most popular album probably seemed like a great idea in theory, both commercially (because who doesn't love MMLP?) and artistically (because the concept could taken him back to a hungrier, more inventive mindset as a writer). Too bad he wasn't up to the challenge creatively and comparing the quality of the two albums feels like a bad joke

I honestly think that with MMLP2 he just wanted to put out a new album, but for the first time in his career he really had no idea for a theme or direction of the album because there was nothing new in his life. The first 3 albums were the 3 sides to his persona. Encore was because the fans wanted more but he was running on empty. Curtain Call was the end of the first half of his career. Then we got Relapse and Recovery dealing with the two sides of his drug addiction. When it came time for a new album I think he really had no idea what to do with it. I'd imagine Em met with Paul and his management team and they came up with the MMLP2 idea together basically as a publicity stunt. It was a HORRIBLE idea though. MMLP2 sounds absolutely NOTHING like the original. It's not comparable in any way. Especially in quality. It really makes me wonder.. if the 2015 album rumors are true.. what the h--- are they gonna call that? MMLP3?

He took Bruno's a--- to his face for publicity. That said, I don't think you can make an entire album for publicity. I think he just wants people to reconcile who he was with who he is. Naming his album that and dying his hair are provocative reminders of when critics still respected him as much as his fan base. Maybe this was a last ditch effort at recapturing that. Making Rap God, and a Stan sequel, and working with Rick Rubin certainly feel that way, no matter how short they fall in that regard. Eminem as of late has struck me as more deluded than cynical.

this is the decision that, more than just about any other, shows how much he's lost in terms of having integrity as an artist.

this isn't the guy who gets mad at the label for trying to tell him what to do anymore, he's a guy who will do just about anything his handlers tell him to do

I remember reading somewhere that Eminem was not convinced by dying his hair blonde when Paul told him the idea while recording MMLP2, but then Paul managed to convince Em on doing it.
And let's not forget that a new logo was introduced when MMLP2 dropped which was exactly what happened when MMLP1 dropped.

Is MMLP2 the start of a new phase in his career? Shady XV? Waiting to see what will happen next.

It was a marketing scheme. Eminem's comeback since 09 has been a huge disapointment overall.
A shadow of the artist he used to be. He has also changed as a person too afraid to upset any other rappers & basically just turned into a p----. Also the way he lets Paul run his career is embarrasing & annoying. He is a 42 year old being managed like a 20 year old novice who just broke onto the music industry.

It was a little both, I think Em wanted to "prove" that he could be the same rapper he once was. Because if you think about it a lot of the criticism he's received with his 3 projects before MMLP2 was that he wasn't the same rapper that he once was. MMLP2 I think was him kind of trying to prove everyone wrong, now obviously he came up short in doing that but still by going back and revisiting the original MMLP and just his older music in general and trying to recreate that same atmosphere and energy we saw some of his old characteristics.

Eminem is just a puppet nowadays.

He wants an easy life (as easy as possible anyway given his super stardom). It's easier to say yes than argue against why something is not right. He is owned by Interscope, the biggest puppeteer there is!

So yes, I think it was all just a marketing scam. It did work for how it was intended though so fair play.

Did he say in the Zane lowe interview that he knew where he was going with this project or that he didn't know? I can't remember.. That should answer your question.

I think Paul did it for the PR and em did it for old time sake. The guys got to miss the buzz he had around him back then

I bet you the man knows himself that MMLP2 isn't worthy of the title. People need to get over MMLP2 and take it for what it is. Either you love it, like it, or hate it and just brace yourself for another sequel. His album titles always follow the same formula they're always connected so either TES2 or SSLP2. To me if he went with the title of SSLP2 it would kind of be like ending it where it started. Which on paper to me looks cool not a great idea but looks cool. I refuse to believe he doesn't have great material that hes made in recent years that we'll never hear that could put together a great album. Just think hes too much of a puppet for his label rather than "out of touch" and is too weird about putting out personal material now. Even with Slim Shady style songs no way did he write crap like So Much Better and So Far all these average songs and some how randomly gets a spark and writes Evil Twin, Brainless, Groundhog Day, Bad Guy etc etc. He's got gems in the vault that are recent just wish someone would talk some f---ing sense into him for once. s--- Cocaine s----s all over 99.9% of Recovery and most of his emotional songs since his comeback. Most of you guys need to realize that the problem isn't Eminem its the people around Eminem. He took like what a 3 year break after Recovery and you think he really only recorded 1 album full of material? Dude probably has a couple of albums of great music.
