The term can mean a lot of things but in this case I'm talking albums that get so popular, they tend to overshadow the artist's other, arguably better work.

Particularly fits if the album is - in your opinion at least - vapid, overly commercial, or just bs.

    d--- and I'm a Kendrick fan.

Clearly a major step down from GKMC/TPAB which felt more like masterpieces.

d--- is the textbook example of a forced classic imho. Not a bad album by any means but I felt 4:44 was a MUCH better conscious album released in the same year.

No, not really. Have to agree. Someone streamed the whole album on YT and I decided to check it out. Walked away thinking it was just okay

That’s exactly what it is, just okay, almost sterile. It has no outstanding qualities, even though there’s a couple of great songs. Kanye’s first for example is leaps & bounds ahead to me. Doesn’t help that the mastering technique (loudness) they used is also terrible.

The album just feels like an attempt to make the most mainstream appealing project they could whilst making a hip-hop style album - cheap lyrics, adding known legends, pop stars to the formula, same with the instrumentation, it results in compromising the final product.

For example, a friend of mine knows a sound engineer who was present studio personnel during a few of the sessions & they purposely turned down some of the drums bass in the mix to make it more radio friendly, they referenced Dark Fantasy in particular. This is how the album feels across the board to me.

But Yeezus got such rich lyricism and a provocative execution about it that makes it better because it "doesn't sound commercial". Smh. I cringe at s--- like this. Entitled to your opinion. But n----s will say s--- like this and like an album that is equally as overrated with a similar sound. f--- Yeezus, if this is your take on MBDTF. ARGHHHHHH!!!!! And f--- Kanye's medicine, too. f--- the mere concept of "logic" and f--- Bobby Tarantino.

I never compared it to Yeezus, that has its own issues, only Kanye stans hail that as a classic though. MBDTF is highly received elsewhere too.
