Apr 23, 2015 The ending of the Wire was absolutely flawless, but can we say it was happy? Some characters had a bittersweet ending, but at the end, the city of Baltimore was still in shambles for the most part. Thoughts?
Apr 23, 2015 Happy? h--- no lol I even remember listening to David Simon's commentary on the last episode and he said something to the extent of "d--- I still can't believe I made the ending of the series so depressing...I'm really a bad person for doing that." Or something like that lol
Apr 23, 2015 Definitely not happy, David Simon wanted to show that everything we witnessed throughout the show is just a never ending cycle. Majority of the characters, whether dead or in jail will always have someone else come in and take over their spot. I think the only person who got a "happy" ending was Marlo but happiness in his eyes was being the king of the game. The fact that those two corner boys didn't even know who he was definitely pissed him off and it probably wouldn't have been long before he was back out on the streets.
Apr 23, 2015 Not at all. Dukie shooting up in the season finale montage made me sad as f---, even though the writing was on the wall. It was obvious that his actions mirrored Bubbles' from the start, still didnt't expect it. That hit me hard. I was rooting for Duke and was hoping that he would find a way out with his smarts or compassion, but truth be told he was just dealt a bad hand and his life was a pre determined outcome. Hopefully, like Bubbles he turns it around. I like how they had a conclusion for every relevant character though. The ambigious ending for Marlo was great. Slim Charles becoming the new Prop Joe/CEO type was good, I was rooting for Slim. I definitely didn't really get a 'happy' ending from any of it though. More of a "it is what it is" type vibe. Like there's nothing they can do to change the system. Most of the kids (with the exception of b---- a--- Namond) will end up with s-----y lives and repeat what those did before them. Michael, duke, spider, kenard, randy, donut, they all become players of the game.
Apr 24, 2015 Havent seen the wire in years but from what i remember, it wasnt "happy" Amazing show, recommend anyone who hasnt seen it to watch it.
Apr 24, 2015 Marlo certainly didnt get a "happy" ending. In fact I'd say he ended up receiving a fate worse than death by his standards.
